Biff (00:10)
Hello everybody. Welcome to another episode of Laugh Smartly. Here with my partners Lucky and Mr. Fun, and I'm Biff. Great to be with you guys again. Great to be with everybody out there. Mr. Fun, let's do it. Just go right into a joke.

Mr Fun (00:26)
Ready? Okay, so this guy wakes up in the hospital, he's got an oxygen mask on his face, and he says, Nurse, are my testicles black? And the nurse looks under the sheets, she can't really see them, so she grabs them, she takes the sheet off, she puts a light on, she moves them around, she goes, They look normal to me. And then he takes off his mask and he says, I asked if my test results were back.

Biff (00:55)
Very good. That's a good joke. Very good.

Mr Fun (00:55)
That's the joke. All right.

Lucky (00:56)
All right.

Biff (00:58)
And again, just a plug, because we are we are 30 days in counting from Giveahoot, Gathersburg, Maryland, November 12th. The best comedian in Montgomery County, Maryland,

And I see Lucky i is doing anything for one of our sponsors, Scotty Scotty's vodka. He has a box of nine bottles of one point seven five liters of vodka. So

Lucky (01:21)
We will

be serving this at homecoming this weekend, University of Maryland's

Biff (01:25)
Yep. Yep.

Lucky (01:26)
Homecoming.

Biff (01:27)
Terrific. Well good. Well we are I I saw some folks at a wedding last weekend mentioned that they had been to several events where Scotty's vodka was was being served. so we're pleased to hear that. Again, Maryland made Maryland smooth, Scotty's vodka. Also want again quick shout out to Rockfish for leading us in with Mrs. Fun at the beginning, as they do every week. And finally, as I've said last week, tackle up tackle up bb dot com for all your

Performance fishing wear and other gifty clothing items from you can go there again, type all type in tackle up bb.com and laugh fifteen for the promo code for fifteen percent off. So so please do that. I did listen, Mr. Funn recently when we talked about the performance wear where you were wondering what it was performing for, right? Your shirt that you wore. And

Mr Fun (02:15)
Yeah. Yeah.

Biff (02:17)
I th and I thought to myself, I hope you didn't wear it while having sex.

'Cause that's not the performance wear that it's meant for, I believe. That was just the thought that came to

Lucky (02:26)
does it help with performance in that area?

Biff (02:28)
I d I I I guess it could. I don't know. Do you think you need y

Lucky (02:32)
Jesus, I'm I need some more gear then. I wanna like I'm gonna take it take it up a few notches.

Mr Fun (02:32)
Right to whisk away my sweat.

I have to ask

Mrs. Fun what she thinks of me wearing the skin tight long sleeve performance wear.

Yeah.

Biff (02:45)
Yeah. That's right. So

it may it may it be it may be like one of those things like a lucky charm at the end of the day. Like every week you're gonna have to wear it.

Mr Fun (02:54)
I'm willing. I'm willing to pay whatever price it takes. Hey,

Lucky (02:54)
Your lucky shirt.

Mr Fun (02:57)
listen, a fun fact, do you guys know that the word sugar is the only word in the English language where S U is pronounced sh? Did you know that? I'm pretty sure of that.

Pretty sure of that.

Lucky (03:11)
Okay.

Biff (03:13)
I'm I'm watching Lucky's Face for those that that

Lucky (03:15)
Yeah.

Biff (03:15)
watch this on YouTube. so anyways. one final quick shout out to friend of ours who listeners of the show, John G and Angie of Potomac, Maryland. they didn't buy a zoo, they bought a beer and wine store. and they're running it, and their son Kyle is running it. Westlake Wine and Beer. For those who are familiar with the Bethesda area, the Home Depot specifically by Montgomery Mall.

There's a beer and wine store there. They

Lucky (03:40)
yeah.

Biff (03:40)
are now the proud owners of that. So please go see Kyle there for all your beer and wine needs.

Mr Fun (03:46)
Wait, let's revisit this. I could walk there. This is near the Home Depot? Westlake.

Biff (03:49)
Yes, it's in the sho it's

in the little strip center right behind the home depot.

Mr Fun (03:54)
Are they giving out like fifteen percent discounts to host of the show?

Biff (03:57)
I imagine they would give you a discount of something. I d I d

Mr Fun (04:00)
I'll I'll p talk up every week. Let's go. Let's go. That's great.

Biff (04:06)
so do that. So I we're proud to see them at a wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, which was beautiful on Kent Island. our friends Lena and Kevin got married over the weekend. So but again, Westlake

Mr Fun (04:16)
Nice. Congrats, guys.

Biff (04:18)
line wine and beer and again go see Kyle. That's who they should

Mr Fun (04:20)
I'll be there tomorrow.

Biff (04:22)
terrific.

Lucky (04:21)
Kyle.

Biff (04:22)
So good. So Lucky, let's just jump right into some news for the week.

Lucky (04:27)
Okay. So I'm a big reader. I read a bunch of different things every day. And I'd love to find like these the these stories where the a character, a person is telling their story of like what they do during their day and how like how much money they make, how they make their money. And so I saw this one on The Naked Cowboy. So for those of you who've been in New York City, Times Square.

You see the n naked cowboy, the dude who's pr you know, pretty much cut muscular, you know, dude. He's got underwear on, he's got a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and he's playing a guitar. he's super famous, right? And I mean, I don't I think he's been doing the naked cowboy for twenty plus years. Yeah, yeah.

Biff (05:15)
Easily. Easily, I would say.

Lucky (05:17)
I mean, everyone g a lot of people g you know, who traveled to New York have been there first time, I think that a lot of times that's what one of the things they're going to see is see this guy. Okay. If you were gonna guess how much he makes on an average year, what would you say?

Biff (05:31)
So is this making as in like he's what's the what's the word? Busking, right? That's when you're playing music and people throw dollars or change into a cup. Is that or you think that he's got promotions meanings to

Lucky (05:42)
Well, okay.

So he's he has a couple different revenue sources,

which one of them is busking.

Biff (05:46)
Okay. huh.

Lucky (05:50)
but in general, this guy, his biggest year that he's ever had it, he's made around 250 K.

Mr Fun (05:57)
Wow. Wow.

Biff (05:57)
Okay. All right.

Lucky (05:58)
On average,

he makes about a hundred and fifty K. And some of his lowest years have been like between twenty five and thirty thousand dollars.

Biff (06:06)
Okay. All right.

Lucky (06:07)
So so

Mr Fun (06:08)
I heard that guy

doesn't roll joints, he tumbles weed. Tumbles weed, because he's a cowboy. Hey, you yeah, you know,

Lucky (06:12)
He tumbles weed.

Biff (06:12)
What? Dumpled.

Mr Fun (06:16)
so the sheriff, the sheriff is a totally different cowboy, is walking down the street and he sees a naked, a naked cowboy. So he goes up to him and he goes, What the hell are you doing? You're naked, you're in the middle of the street. And he says, Well, I was in the saloon and this red-headed chick asked me to come back to her hotel, so I was.

There and she took off her clothes, then she told me to take off my clothes, and then she said Go to town, cowboy. And that's why I'm walking

Lucky (06:45)
Everything.

Mr Fun (06:46)
naked down the st street.

Biff (06:47)
Okay.

Lucky (06:48)
Okay.

Biff (06:49)
So

that's there's there's geez Louise. There's a a sheriff, a different kind of cowboy. Those are the exact words that came out of your mouth. So that's a good question though, philosophically. Can you be a sheriff and a cowboy or is a cowboy somebody that's specifically for, you know, ranching and and you know you know roping cows and you know rustling cats?

Mr Fun (07:10)
They have sheriffs now. They like

run for office. You gotta be elected to be

Lucky (07:14)
There's

Mr Fun (07:14)
a sheriff.

Lucky (07:15)
there's capital C cowboy and small c cowboy. You know what I mean?

Biff (07:18)
Right. Right. But but the

sheriff wears a c many in the western US wear cowboy hats, I will grant you at that. But can you be a cowboy and a sheriff? That's my question.

Lucky (07:29)
Yeah, I think so.

Biff (07:30)
Okay, all right.

Mr Fun (07:30)
I don't know, but there

was a cowboy who thought he had ninety seven cows. no, he thought he had a hundred. He said he had a hundred, but he only had ninety seven, but he rounded it up. He rounded up. He br

Lucky (07:42)
Rounded them up. All

Biff (07:42)
Nice. So so

Lucky (07:44)
right.

Biff (07:44)
go the

going back to the naked cowboy though. So he makes two hundred fifty grand

Mr Fun (07:46)
Yeah.

Biff (07:50)
his bet doing his best year.

Lucky (07:48)
That's his best year. And

average 150. Last year he made $20,000 in tips, $50,000 from Cameo, which is that app where you can hire, yeah,

Biff (08:01)
Send a message, right?

Lucky (08:02)
send a message to like for a birthday gift or whatever. He made $50K on that, $7,800

Biff (08:05)
Yeah. Okay.

Lucky (08:07)
from Naked Cowboy Enterprises, what with whatever that is, and then another $10,000 from Naked Cowboy Oysters. Okay.

Biff (08:16)
oysters.

Lucky (08:17)
Oysters. He's got some he's got a I

Mr Fun (08:18)
Are they like West Virginia oysters?

Lucky (08:20)
I I'm not sure. Rocky bound.

Biff (08:21)
Yeah. Yeah. Rocky Mountain oysters, I believe, is what they

Mr Fun (08:24)
Yeah, he's not he's not naked.

I've seen the guy.

Biff (08:27)
No, no he's not.

Mr Fun (08:28)
He's wearing like a G string, like a diaper.

Biff (08:31)
Yeah, he

Lucky (08:31)
Yeah.

Biff (08:31)
he yeah, he does that. He but it's like flesh colored though. He is definitely he he he pretends he's he's being naked there, obviously.

Mr Fun (08:37)
I must have seen him

at Christmas time. He had like a a a silver tinsley thing. Yeah.

Lucky (08:43)
Yeah.

Some inside baseball on him. So he lives in Queens and he pays about twenty twenty one hundred bucks in rent, which includes a garage. He drives to work every day. He's got a parking spot in Times Square, and that's where he goes when he needs a break. He goes to his car. If it's too cold, he goes in there to warm up. It's too hot. He goes there, turns the air conditioning on. he does not have h health insurance, by the way. So you would think yeah.

Biff (09:10)
How how I'm sorry, how old is

he?

Lucky (09:14)
that's a good question. I think he I think he's in his fifties. Yeah.

Mr Fun (09:21)
So, Biff,

let me make a suggestion to you. you're retired now, and

Biff (09:26)
Mm-hmm.

Mr Fun (09:26)
there may be a time you think you could use a little more cash. Can we ever expect to see you as a naked cowboy around the street tough streets of Bethany Beach?

Biff (09:37)
I that would be

a you'd have to pay me more than two hundred and fifty grand. Yes, you would. And and

Mr Fun (09:40)
Really? If I was retired

Lucky (09:43)
Why? 'Cause we'd make fun of you.

Biff (09:45)
there would be that for sure. Well, I don't th okay. I guess the money is almost secondary. Do you do you have the confidence to stand out there with a guitar? Would you either of you, right? To stand out anywhere on a street for let's call it an afternoon.

In your underwear and a cowboy hat. Would you do it?

Mr Fun (10:10)
It sounds like a dream job to me. I would

Lucky (10:13)
For Yeah.

Mr Fun (10:15)
love that.

Lucky (10:17)
Yeah, I would

Biff (10:17)
Then why don't

why don't you do it tomorrow in Bethesda then, Mr. Funn?

Mr Fun (10:21)
When

I retire, if I decide I need a few bucks, I'm gonna

Biff (10:24)
Okay.

Mr Fun (10:24)
start I'm gonna get a guitar and take my shirt off.

Lucky (10:28)
But you you don't h have musical talent and you don't have the the naked cowboy body. So what would be the at what are you gonna get up there and tell jokes?

Mr Fun (10:34)
Wait, is he in good shape? I saw

him. He he didn't appear to be in great shape. Is he in good shape?

Biff (10:38)
He he's in good shape.

By the way, he's fifty five years old.

Lucky (10:42)
Fifty five, born in nineteen seventy.

Biff (10:44)
Yeah, re real name Robert John Burke is his name. So he's fit

Mr Fun (10:48)
That's a that's a

good provocative question. How much would you have to make a day to do that?

Biff (10:54)
Right. What would you what would it what would be worth your indignity in some cases to go stand out there? Okay.

Mr Fun (10:58)
No no, I would be proud of my my naked

cowboyness. I would do it for let's see, let's see. two thousand dollars a month. I would do it.

Biff (11:10)
No, you

Lucky (11:10)
Okay.

Biff (11:11)
wouldn't. Two thousand dollars a month. So I I

Mr Fun (11:13)
Just stand there? That'd be great.

Biff (11:15)
did

Lucky (11:15)
Eight.

Biff (11:16)
I was on a flight to the UK, so he must have been doing appearances. I'm sure he I don't remember that was on your list there, but

Lucky (11:21)
Yep.

Biff (11:21)
he was flying to the UK and this guy he comes on the plane, he's got the cowboy hat and he's got a full length fur coat on. So yeah, I I I suppose pretending he's naked underneath, but he wasn't at the point. I was like, who is this guy getting on the airplane dressed like that? And it was the naked cowboy flying to London.

Mr Fun (11:38)
How famous

is this guy? I had no idea. I've seen him a couple times. I didn't know he was this famous. Wow.

Biff (11:43)
Yeah,

Lucky (11:44)
Yeah,

t he's been doing it for twenty eight years. He wakes up and he gets he reads a lot in the morning, then he goes to the gym and then he's usually working between eleven AM and five PM every day. And it

Mr Fun (11:55)
What if you were anonymous,

Biff? What what if you could be like Mickey Mouse? Or the or Elmo? Yeah, what about Elmo?

Biff (12:00)
be in a in a costume or a Mickey Mouse head. No,

I would I would one, I wouldn't be any of those costume characters. But are you saying if I was anonymous like wearing a mask on my face, right? Like dress like the like no

Mr Fun (12:11)
What costume character would you be?

Biff (12:13)
like would you wear a like the Lone Ranger, right? The Lone Ranger has a mask and then stand out there on a street corner in your underwear.

Mr Fun (12:19)
I just told you I'd be the Nikki

Cowboy. I'd I'd I'd be Spider-Man, I'd be the Lone Ranger, I would do it all.

Biff (12:24)
Yeah. I can't

wait for that day you retire. I'm g I'll s I'll send you the cowboy hat, Mr. Funn.

Mr Fun (12:31)
Lucky, would

Lucky (12:31)
What

Mr Fun (12:31)
you do it? Would you be Spider Man for a couple couple hundred bucks a day?

Lucky (12:38)
I would. I would do that.

Biff (12:40)
Mm.

Lucky (12:41)
I would do that. Although my I'd need to get a help me with a body proportion suit. You know what I mean? Like I Spider-Man

Mr Fun (12:48)
Yeah, yeah.

Lucky (12:49)
doesn't have like a dad belly like like I have. So we gotta figure that out.

Mr Fun (12:52)
Right. Right. Right. I see that.

Biff (12:54)
I the final thing I'll say and then we'll move on to another story. That was a surprisingly low amount of money. I thought you were gonna say he was making a million bucks.

Mr Fun (13:01)
What?

Lucky (13:01)
Yeah.

Biff (13:02)
Yeah, I d I thought he was gonna make it I mean two hundred and fifty thousand dollars is his best year, lives in

Mr Fun (13:07)
That's a lot of money.

Biff (13:09)
but he lives in greater New York City and he goes to Manhattan every day. I thought he made more than that. I d I would have if you would have given me a range, I would have thought he would made more.

Lucky (13:18)
Yeah. He does have a financial advisor though, so he's you know, hopefully he's socked his money away and

Mr Fun (13:23)
Yeah.

Lucky (13:24)
when he for for his older

Mr Fun (13:26)
That guy is beating

the system. That guy's beating the system. If you love what you do, you don't work a day in your life. That's what that's what that guy.

Biff (13:28)
Yes, that's right. That's right. Yeah

Lucky (13:29)
Yeah, yeah.

All right. So that's the life in the life of of the naked cowboy. All right, so the other thing, it's it's storm season. We've experienced

our

Biff (13:43)
Mm-hmm.

Lucky (13:43)
own experiences of storms, you know, with the couple weeks ago and losing some of the beach and blah, blah, blah. have you heard of the Waffle House Index?

Mr Fun (13:55)
Now

Biff (13:55)
I

Lucky (13:55)
Anybody

Biff (13:55)
have have I

Lucky (13:56)
hear this?

Biff (13:57)
I I I think I've heard about it, but I don't know what it is.

Lucky (14:00)
So, okay, the Waffle House Index is it's the South's favorite disaster authority pro that provides an informal measure of how significantly a storm will affect a specific area or community. So so the back in back when the current when there was a former FEMA administrator, his name is Greg Fugati, and when he was working down in Florida,

He one of the things that he would look at informally was how many of the waffle houses in the south were closed when hurricanes were coming or on the on the aftermath. And it was his, it was one data point that he found was relatively accurate in determining how impacted a specific community was. If they were closed,

Biff (14:45)
Okay.

Lucky (14:46)
if they were partially open, fully opened, that kind of thing, which is a really good idea.

If you think about it, because of how many waffle houses there are in the South, I mean

Biff (14:58)
Right.

Lucky (14:58)
they're they're almost on every exit.

Biff (15:00)
Yeah.

Lucky (15:01)
You know, so there's the so he what he did developed was this map of overnight of the 1900 locations, and he has they came up with this index, and basically if they're open, the the the dot is green for that store. If they're partially opened,

with like using generators or, you know, low on supplies or whatever. They're yellow and red means they're closed. But it's a it's a pretty accurate estimate estimate or g input into, you know, where FEMA deploys resources and it's still used today, which I thought it was pretty, pretty interesting.

Mr Fun (15:37)
Wow.

Biff (15:38)
Have you have you been to a waffle house, either of you?

Lucky (15:41)
I have.

Mr Fun (15:42)
I have.

Biff (15:43)
Yeah, do you do you like

Lucky (15:44)
Now

Mr Fun (15:45)
I love

Biff (15:47)
Yeah, it's it's not my favorite, I will say

Mr Fun (15:49)
Really?

Biff (15:50)
that. I've I've been to probably no I don't want to say a lot, two or three. And yes, they are all the same, they look the same on the inside. and they have that same caliber of server that you get at some of your lower rent diners, I guess I'd say that. But I I just I haven't found it to be that good at the end of the day. I don't yeah.

Lucky (16:11)
I yeah, like the basic eggs and bacon, I

just it doesn't taste good 'cause it's they're open twenty four seven. So their grill's probably not as the best clean, you know.

Biff (16:19)
Yeah. So

Mr Fun (16:20)
Wow. You

guys know what has twelve boobs and twenty four teeth? The overnight weight staff at Waffle House.

Biff (16:29)
look at that. I f I fed right into that. I fed like that. I didn't even know you were going down that path. But but it it does that reminds me, which which it probably is to your point, like you have good indicator how how how violent a storm is or how much damage it has done. Did you there used to be, you probably both heard the big Mac index? Same thing. It's a principle.

Lucky (16:46)
What's that tell ya?

Biff (16:48)
So the Big Mac Mac index is one they use globally that they look at the price of a Big Mac. And the and the Big Mac, the ingredients of a Big Mac are roughly the same.

Right, they should be the same the world over in terms of what they are. But then they look at the cost within each market to determine if there's you know taxes and regulation and other things on it, and they look at what c a Big Mac costs in different cities to see how those cities compare cost wise to other cities around the world. Same same same principle, Big Macs. So has anybody had a whopper yet, by the way? Real quick?

Lucky (17:16)
Pretty good idea. Yeah. would it would no?

Biff (17:23)
We talked about it. Yeah.

Mr Fun (17:23)
disappointed in myself. I said I was gonna do it and then I haven't found a Burger King.

Biff (17:27)
Yeah.

Lucky (17:29)
No. but what is with all you know, we're susceptible to storms. What's our equivalent of Waffle House index in the D in the Del Marva?

Biff (17:38)
I I gotta think it's you would think it's gotta be related

Lucky (17:40)
Royal Farms opening.

Biff (17:41)
to rural farms would be one, but you know, around here because they tend to be water more closer to the water, you gotta think of some b of bars, frankly, with if they were open, but they're not they're not the same all over. Like

Lucky (17:55)
Yeah.

Biff (17:56)
if the if the starboard is closed in Dewey Beach for sake of argument, that means it's a pretty bad store.

Mr Fun (18:01)
Yeah.

Lucky (18:01)
Yeah.

Biff (18:02)
I I would I would think that there's gotta be the equivalent in Ocean City and and other spots. But yeah, obviously.

Royal Farms, but there aren't that many. there's dollar generals everywhere, seemingly on the eastern shore. So I would imagine that would be one, but not not as as fun.

Mr Fun (18:17)
I'm struggling with Royal

Farms. Like I was three P spicy chicken with the fries and the biscuit. It may be too much for me these days. Like like it's it's a lot. It's a lot of of potatoes. A lot of potatoes. Do you do that, Pip? When

Lucky (18:35)
We'll get less

Mr Fun (18:35)
when you go to Royal Farms, do you get the chicken?

Biff (18:38)
We get the chicken, we don't buy any sides. We don't get the mail.

Mr Fun (18:39)
You don't get the meal. Buck, do you do the

meal?

Lucky (18:43)
Now I usually get the sandwich and the small f smallest fries they have.

Mr Fun (18:47)
Let's assume you went for chicken. Would you get the potato wedges?

Lucky (18:52)
Wa what I usually do when I'm getting chicken is I just go all breasts. So like like if I'm like I'll take twelve breasts home with me for my family.

Biff (19:01)
He was like, Give me

the Johansson. Give me the the

Mr Fun (19:05)
Wow. All right.

Biff (19:07)
I yeah, we just get chicken. We don't even get the mashed potatoes, we usually get sides somewhere else.

Mr Fun (19:10)
I was in love with the meal.

I used to get the meal I thought I was a person of the people getting the whole meal. And now I it's too much for me. It's too much. It's so good.

Biff (19:18)
I still think it's very, very good chicken.

So I've got no complaints about Royal Farm.

Lucky (19:22)
Can't can't

you eat it the next day, mister Fun? Chicken's good like that.

Mr Fun (19:27)
I'll no I eat the chicken. I eat the hell out of the chicken. But I don't eat the potatoes. There's just too many potatoes. Is that is that possible? I don't know.

Lucky (19:36)
Maybe. All

Biff (19:36)
Anything's possible.

Lucky (19:39)
right. here's another local story that I found super interesting. So, all right, so you I don't know if they have this in the the Bethany beaches or Rehoboth beaches. I Rehoboth may have it. But the the you know, the umbrella spots on the beach where they you know you can rent the the chairs and the umbrellas for the day or week or whatever. so

they I read an article about how Ocean City, they do these auctions, they call them beach franchise auctions periodically. Like they do them every year, but they rotate through the the different spots. Like there's some, like this year there's 11 mid-beach parcels that are part of the of the auction that's happening that happen that's happening sometime between now and December. So everybody's registering and preparing.

But there are about set I think there's th roughly seventy beach equipment parcels in three different sections, south, mid and north. And each year some subsection goes up for auction and companies bid on to be able to be the company that does the renting. Do you know how much

Mr Fun (20:44)
These are things these

are used beach equipment or missing or

Biff (20:47)
No, no,

this is to get the services, is what you're saying. To get to sell it the next year. Did I understand that correct? To be the Venn?

Lucky (20:51)
Yeah, to be the vendor that sells to the public.

Mr Fun (20:53)
I'm sorry.

Biff (20:54)
Yeah.

Lucky (20:55)
Okay. You know you know how much Ocean City made last year on the on the auctions where thirty-three of the thirty-four South end partials of some of the north stuff were auctioned off. Guess you know, guess how much they made?

Mr Fun (21:06)
I mean, believe it

or not, I've never even thought of this. I've never even given it much thought.

Biff (21:09)
So well, I've

got I'm gonna do back of the napkin math, because they do

Mr Fun (21:12)
Okay.

Biff (21:12)
have them at Sea Colony, just so we're clear, and and Bethany as well. And I think the rental for an umbrella is pretty high for a day. It's probably twenty-five bucks, is my guess, something like that, maybe twenty bucks for the day. Now you can get a different for a season and all that other stuff. How many umbrellas would they rent in a section of Ocean City, which is a big, let's call it fifty block area? You gotta be.

It's hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars, I can

Lucky (21:40)
Yeah.

Biff (21:40)
imagine.

Lucky (21:41)
Eight okay, last year 33 of the 34 South end parcels and and as su and one north end parcel were auctioned off to the highest bidder. $874,500 is what City of Ocean City yielded from those auctions. Which is crazy.

Mr Fun (21:57)
Nice.

Biff (21:58)
Yeah. Yeah, I I g I gotta imagine.

Mr Fun (22:00)
Yeah.

Lucky (22:01)
Crazy. But it was 16% less revenue than the last round, the last time they did it. So

which is but but anyway, so I was thinking to myself I s I read the article, I'm like, Hey, that would be a fun business to have. It would

Mr Fun (22:13)
Yeah.

Lucky (22:13)
you know, keep me down in Ocean City. But I you know, I need to have some big money to get into that business.

Mr Fun (22:18)
Talk to Biff. He doesn't even want to make two hundred fifty wearing a cowboy outfit. Hey, listen,

Biff (22:22)
Yeah. Yeah, that's right. I w

Mr Fun (22:24)
I I went to an auction where they were selling weed, but I didn't I didn't get any 'cause I was never the highest bidder.

Biff (22:31)
Yeah, nice. So

Lucky (22:32)
I spinner.

Biff (22:33)
yeah. but you got look, that's a I gotta imagine that you'd have to think about the math. Or you obviously you have to do the math that one umbrella has got to pay back itself a lot, you know, just because they can't be that expensive at the end of the day. And the services you have, obviously it doesn't include

Lucky (22:48)
Yeah.

Biff (22:51)
labor, but I don't know. It it's I remember when they medallions on taxis in in New York City, remember they were they were worth

Mr Fun (22:58)
Yeah, yeah.

Biff (22:59)
a million dollars.

Mr Fun (23:00)
Yeah.

Biff (23:01)
Those things aren't worth fifty cents now because of the because of Uber.

Mr Fun (23:03)
You you get an umbrella when you lie out on the beach, Biff?

Biff (23:06)
we have an umbrella. We get a seasonal umbrella. I don't sit under the umbrella typically, mister Fun, since you were po you're poking fun at me, I can tell by the tone of your voice. Okay.

Mr Fun (23:12)
Yeah. No, no, no, no. I was just setting up a joke. I am

I'm too cheap to get an umbrella. So when I go out there I just put I usually go naked, in case you're wondering, and I put a my hat over my private part. And it was funny, this woman walks by and she was joking around. She goes, You know, a gentleman usually raises his hat when a woman walks by and I said, If you were a good looking woman, it would raise itself.

Lucky (23:40)
Hmm.

Biff (23:40)
Nice. Very good.

Mr Fun (23:41)
So

Lucky (23:42)
Alright, Mr. Fun, I'm just curious, what's your workout regiment these days?

Mr Fun (23:48)
you know, I'll walk from the parking lot to the office.

Biff (23:53)
That's that's it?

Lucky (23:52)
That's okay. That's it.

Biff (23:55)
Nothing?

Mr Fun (23:55)
I'll

then I'll get up and I'll go to the copier.

Biff (24:00)
okay. He says that, but lucky we should I think you were in Germany when Mr. Funn sent another water aerobics video. He

Lucky (24:09)
okay.

Biff (24:09)
he he goes to the sauna and or the hot tub and then shoots a video of all the older ladies doing water aerobics, which is awkward.

Mr Fun (24:18)
Okay, I think this funny this

story is mean, but it's funny to me. So

Biff (24:22)
Okay.

Mr Fun (24:23)
there's a gentleman who's probably 300 pounds in the pool, and he's obviously got some some issue, I don't know, some disability. So just leave it at that. And his mom is standing on the side of the pool and she's coaching him. Come on, lift your legs, you can do this, blah, blah, blah. Everybody in the pool is 100 years old. So they get out afterwards.

And the woman is standing there, and this other really old woman comes out of the pool and goes, Hey, I haven't seen you for a while. And then she looks over at me and I swear, she goes, And look at you. You're such a handsome little man now. And she thinks I'm the guy who was just in the pool.

And

Lucky (25:01)
Okay.

Mr Fun (25:02)
so I panic and I go, I'm I'm not her son. I just walk

Biff (25:05)
Yeah.

Mr Fun (25:08)
out of the out of the pool area. I felt bad.

Biff (25:11)
There go.

Mr Fun (25:11)
I felt bad.

Biff (25:12)
And that says everything

Lucky (25:13)
All right, so

Biff (25:14)
you need to know about Mr. Flood's workout

Lucky (25:16)
So for those last week, 60 61 year old woman, Canadian woman, broke her own world record by holding a plank for five hours. Planking means on your elbows, on your toes, basically, and basically laying horizontal to the to the ground. For five hours, it's like a massive core activity.

Biff (25:42)
It's it's an incredibly difficult activity. If y you've done it before, Mr. Funn. I know that. you've done a plank. And

Mr Fun (25:48)
Yeah. I can play.

Biff (25:50)
and honestly, you you know, if you haven't done one in a while, doing it a minute, you know, it you you feel it right stressful. To do it for five hours and and Mrs. Biff and I were talking about it. The other thing is you're not allowed you're she wasn't allowed to wear shoes. So she's on her toes, bent

for five hours, not just her elbows, but her toes. And I'm like, that that's

She must have a natural ability to plank. Who can do that for five hours?

Lucky (26:17)
She must have

an awesome core. She she's a grandmother of twelve children.

Biff (26:21)
Okay.

Lucky (26:22)
It I mean, like, you gotta be kidding me. Like for her to be able to you know, her body is must be, yeah, must be like a corner case physiological marvel, you know.

Mr Fun (26:33)
It's why pirates

Biff (26:34)
So

Mr Fun (26:34)
have such great apps. From doing the plank.

Biff (26:37)
Yeah,

very good.

Lucky (26:38)
On the flags.

Biff (26:39)
So I'll be so s I'm not trying to be that funny, but could you stand still for five hours?

Mr Fun (26:46)
I don't even sleep for five hours these days. I do nothing for five hours.

Biff (26:48)
The you

Lucky (26:51)
H here's what's more impress more impressive. She broke her record by thirty minutes. So she broke she set the record, I don't know when it was, in the la caught

Biff (27:00)
Yeah.

Lucky (27:01)
in the last couple years. She's two she's she's aged some and

Biff (27:05)
Yeah.

Lucky (27:05)
she still got enough in the tank to break the record. Which which is a record

Mr Fun (27:09)
Maybe she's dead.

Maybe she's just like she's in Rigamortis. Like that's

Biff (27:14)
Yeah. That's funny.

Mr Fun (27:15)
that you can't do you she's an alien. There's something

Biff (27:18)
I don't know.

the other thing is unless she's got like a phone or a T V in front of her, what do you do for five hours? You're just sitting

Mr Fun (27:25)
Meditate.

Biff (27:26)
there, you meditate for five hours? That's crazy.

Lucky (27:28)
Well, which

she usually planks w and she reads and watches TV. But I don't know what she was doing when she was you know, the five hour thing. Maybe sh

Mr Fun (27:35)
Wait, did you see a picture of her?

Lucky (27:37)
Yeah.

Biff (27:37)
Yeah. She had really red shoulders.

Mr Fun (27:38)
Is she in like ridiculous shape?

Biff (27:40)
I saw that because I'm all the the the blanking or whatever it was. But I've gotten into this odd exercise thing. I saw it online one day and it was like if you can it's you know, you get all these things like they're half of them are probably AI generated. If you can do this for a minute, or if you can do this for a minute. The one that I yeah caught my eye was squatting like honestly, like you're picking rice in a field, like squatting with your your butt basically on the back of your ankles for five minutes.

That's that's the thing to do.

Lucky (28:10)
Mm-hmm.

Biff (28:11)
I've gotten up to three minutes. I haven't gotten to five yet. This has been a couple months doing this. It's the most difficult. I do. I do. I have the hat and everything. But

Mr Fun (28:16)
What did you look like? Like a little Vietnamese person? Yeah. Okay.

Biff (28:21)
I got it is very difficult. I challenge you to squat like that for start at a minute or start at 30 seconds. It is incredible. It's it

Mr Fun (28:28)
What's that do for me?

Biff (28:30)
it it builds up your legs and also your core. When you stand up, it's every muscle you've got to stand up after you've been in a squat.

'Cause you can't use your hands. You gotta do it as a squat. So anyways.

Mr Fun (28:40)
Yeah.

No, no, I'm not doing it. Not doing it.

Biff (28:43)
All

Lucky (28:43)
All right, Bef, what do we got on sports?

Biff (28:43)
right.

we got NFL picks, everybody's favorite. I got a quick recap from last week. going into the week, Lucky was was in was in the lead. you know, ten and five was his record. Luck Mr. Fun and I were seven and eight. But the week was a bit interesting for us in the four games we picked. we came out of the week and was quickly, Mr. Fun and Lucky tied it two, one and one. It's that one that's killing.

All

of us here. And I finished at 3 0 and 1. Should have been four and if the damn commanders hadn't figured out how to screw up the end of an

Lucky (29:20)
Mm.

Biff (29:21)
overtime game. Maybe the dumbest play. And unlike the Maryland Terrapins who don't want to seem to fire their football coach, that play alone might get the football coach of the commanders fired. The losing that game.

Lucky (29:32)
Yeah, that was poor management.

Biff (29:34)
It might be the worst play you've ever seen. It was second only. Actually it was first, and then second place would be the Eagles game.

that same weekend, you know, where they kick the field goal, then kick it kick a call to the guy could return it fifty yards. And

Lucky (29:49)
Mm-hmm.

Biff (29:49)
then they lose the game in the last second. So NFC East is not looking so bueno these days, I would say that they are

Mr Fun (29:55)
Don't you think

that like this is all scripted, like good coaches aren't really doing stuff out of instinct. They like know when the score is tied at this and when there's time, like don't they know what the move is, what the play is?

Lucky (30:10)
Y the good coaches who stay employed do.

Biff (30:13)
I think they do. I think what happens is that I'll I'll say for the commanders game, they they either didn't repeat what should have been done enough, or frankly Jaden Daniels didn't he didn't follow the whatever he was supposed to do.

Lucky (30:27)
Plan.

Biff (30:28)
And and I think that was a it was poor clock management. So yeah, you would think the coach I mean the coaches now know when they're supposed to go for two points versus one point, right?

Mr Fun (30:36)
Yeah.

Biff (30:36)
And and and it does seem a little odd that you could blow games that often. But you know, there's the there's error.

All right. Quickly, let's get into this slate, this week's slate of games. Again, remind everybody we pick four games. We pick the local teams, the commanders, the Ravens, the Eagles, and for Mr. Fun, the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets, which I will say that I picked them to win last week, and Mr. Fun did not. And the and the Jet and the Jets won. So

Mr Fun (31:01)
So dumb. So dumb. I apologize

to all my jet fans out friends out there.

Biff (31:04)
All right, so the first

game we have is the Commanders. They are traveling to San Francisco, where the forty Niners, currently the one of the two best teams in the NFL, I would hazard to say, are giving the Commanders seven and a half points. Who do you have this week for the Commanders game, Mr. Funn?

Mr Fun (31:21)
I'm going for the forty niners, Jake Purdy. I I

Biff (31:25)
Brock Purdy.

Mr Fun (31:25)
do like the fact that Daniels is back. He played so much better.

Biff (31:29)
He did play. He did play well. He tells the very end. lucky, who do you have in the commanders game? Yeah, I'd say. Yep.

Lucky (31:32)
Forty nineers by a long shot. Commanders traveling across the country. Take the points.

Biff (31:38)
I agree with that. Okay, the next game is the Baltimore Ravens against the Cleveland Browns. The it's in Cleveland. the Ravens are giving four and a half points. Ravens had a very good last the overtime win against the Atlanta Falcons. So who do you have in the Ravens game, Mr. Funk?

Mr Fun (31:54)
I love the Ravens. I'm going for the Ravens again.

Biff (31:56)
Gotcha. Well, okay.

Lucky (31:58)
The

Browns are vastly improved, but I think the Ravens have something special this year. I don't think Lamar Jackson's playing, but I'm going Ravens.

Biff (32:08)
I am gonna go against the grain here. I'm gonna take the Browns in that game. So I will

Mr Fun (32:12)
Wow.

Biff (32:12)
take the Browns in that one. All right, the Philadelphia Eagles are at home against

Lucky (32:17)
Yeah.

Biff (32:18)
the Carolina Panthers, who much improved Carolina Panthers. The the Eagles are giving a point and a half to Carolina. Who do you have in that game, Mr. Fun?

Mr Fun (32:26)
So I feel like if I'm gonna make a comeback, I got to take some ri Like I like I love the Eagles, but for this one, I'm gonna pick the Panthers.

Biff (32:35)
Okay. Lucky?

Lucky (32:37)
The

Eagles have no one to carry the ball. They have I mean, they may call up Mr. Fun to be a you know a a practice squad guy. It's

Mr Fun (32:44)
I've been doing my planks.

Lucky (32:46)
Carolina. That's a Carolina.

Biff (32:46)
Okay. Okay. All

Lucky (32:48)
That's an easy one.

Biff (32:49)
right. I'm gonna I'm going out on a limb. I'm gonna go all in on this. I'm gonna go for the Eagles to to win that

Mr Fun (32:54)
All right.

Lucky (32:54)
Okay.

Biff (32:55)
game. Okay. And then finally the New York J E T S Jets, Jets, Jets are playing the New England Patriots in New England. The Patriots are giving seven points to the Jets. Who do you have, Mr. Funn?

Mr Fun (33:09)
So the

obvious choice the obvious choice is New England, but I c I don't like myself. I don't like myself rooting against my team. So I'm gonna pick the Jets. I learned my lesson.

Biff (33:18)
All right.

Lucky?

Lucky (33:20)
Unfortunately, we're not picking against the line, Mr. Fun. I would maybe take the Jets but the Pat Patriots if it if we're going straight out.

Mr Fun (33:25)
I know,

I know.

Biff (33:26)
Yep.

I am also taking the Patriots. So there you have it. We will

Mr Fun (33:29)
Let's go, Jeff. Let's go, Jet.

Biff (33:31)
we will keep we we will score this again next week and you know, see how we do.

Biff (33:37)
Well, here we are, another week with Surface Level Genius. A lot of great feedback about last week's discussion on silking versus soaking, as we were discussing corn. I'm not sure anybody in the corn industry has ever put those two things together, but we have done it. this week, keeping up with the seasons, we are going to do pumpkins. Very excited to talk about pumpkins and surface level genius. Again, this is just to give you guys and our listeners just enough information to be dangerous to acknowledge.

Lucky (34:03)
In a c

I was at Starbucks and the person behind me started chatting me up and I d I was like I felt like I needed something to talk about. If I would have had this pumpkin surface, I would probably have been in a lot better shape. I just didn't have, you know, I you know, so this is yeah, that's right.

Biff (34:18)
When you're ordering your pumpkin spice lottie. What?

Mr Fun (34:18)
Was this a female or a male? Was

this a female or a male?

Lucky (34:23)
I was a dude.

Mr Fun (34:23)
interesting.

Biff (34:24)
It was a dude. So, anyways. So, again, let's

Lucky (34:26)
Yeah. If it was a lady I would have had something to talk about, but this guy

Mr Fun (34:28)
Right.

Biff (34:28)
just let's just baseline facts on pumpkins in the US. The US produces one point five billion pounds of pumpkins each year. Billion with a B. Production spread across all 50 states. But which state, just g give me grant, do you think is the largest producer of pumpkins in the US? Just get it

Lucky (34:48)
Mm.

Mr Fun (34:48)
Alaska!

Biff (34:49)
not Alaska.

Not Alaska.

Lucky (34:50)
I'm going

I think it's a g I'm gonna say Wisconsin.

Biff (34:55)
You were close, a neighbor to Wisconsin. Illinois is the dominant producer,

Mr Fun (34:57)
Illinois.

Biff (34:59)
growing over 533 million pounds in 2025, more than the next four top states combined, which are California, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. So Illinois. And interestingly enough, on Illinois, they produce most of the canned pumpkin, right, in the

Lucky (35:16)
Okay.

Biff (35:16)
country. Because of all the pumpkins grown, 85% of it.

is for ornamental use, meaning on your front porch, right? Or as I'll get to in a moment, throwing it out of air cannons or shooting it out of air cannons. So that's what we have there. The average per capita in the US for pumpkins is six pounds per person of pumpkins, which seems like a lot, but I guess a pumpkin weighs a few pounds. And if you're selling a billion and a half pounds of it, that's where that math comes from.

Mr Fun (35:44)
Wow.

Biff (35:44)
the

other the other fact which I'm gonna give you to I'm sorry, it's a fruit. I must admit I didn't know that it botanically it is a fruit. Specifically

Mr Fun (35:52)
Like a tomato.

Biff (35:54)
yeah, because it has seeds on the inside. Specifically

Mr Fun (35:55)
Yeah.

Biff (35:56)
a pepo, which is like a melon or a cucumber type fruit. Who knew that thing? So

Mr Fun (36:01)
Is it only

grown in the US?

Biff (36:03)
No, it can comes from North and Central America is pumpkins.

Mr Fun (36:06)
Really?

Biff (36:07)
Yes, pumpkins are the go ahead.

Lucky (36:08)
Do you do I

the thing I was curious about is do we have enough pumpkin production in the United States to sustain ourselves or do we have to import pumpkins?

Biff (36:16)
I it sounds like we have enough. I did not ask that question, but I I like the I like where you're going on that, Lucky, but I believe we have our we have enough for ourselves. Because

Lucky (36:25)
Okay.

Biff (36:26)
Halloween and Thanksgiving are effectively US things. I would imagine that we can we can we support our own in that regard. But what started this whole process, which I think is where Lucky was going, was that and I'm not gonna give it away, two days ago, the world's largest pumpkin was certified as grown. No, I'll actually.

Mr Fun (36:42)
Alaska, Alaska, they're gigantic.

Lucky (36:42)
Yeah.

Biff (36:45)
Okay, stop. Lucky,

Mr Fun (36:46)
No?

Biff (36:46)
why don't you give us some facts on the world's largest pumpkin?

Lucky (36:49)
F the 3,157 six pound pumpkin grown in Rhode Island is is be is currently under evaluation for being the world record. So they had the 53rd annual world championship pumpkin wayoff in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco, last week. And this pumpkin, which beat the record by about three hundred pounds, was was

And I was just curious like, what is what do you w do you know like what are some of the special ingredients or special things that make pumpkins grow? I that's the thing I wasn't able to figure out.

Biff (37:26)
So it's

a I I've asked that question. Funny you should ask that, Lucky. How what's the secret to growing a giant pumpkin?

Mr Fun (37:33)
Yeah.

Biff (37:34)
The first one is to start with the right genetics, meaning you take a seed from a big pumpkin and use

Mr Fun (37:40)
makes sense.

Biff (37:41)
that as a start. And the especially the giant pumpkin lines like Dills Atlantic Giant, the standard for competition pumpkins for growing.

Growers wanting to grow pumpkins over 1,500 to 2,000 pounds. So that's what they do. It says use loamy well-draining soil, which got me on this track is what's loamy mean, L-O-A-M-Y. Do you have any idea what loamy means? Is describing. L-O-A-L-O-A-M-Y.

Mr Fun (38:05)
Doesn't have to matter. Yeah, go ahead. You go first.

Lucky (38:05)
Spell it again? Spell it again?

Biff (38:11)
Loamy soil.

Lucky (38:12)
Mm.

Biff (38:13)
What were you going to say, Mr. Funn?

Mr Fun (38:14)
It means I'm not allowed a loam in it.

Biff (38:16)
Yeah, that's okay, thank you. It's fertile soil of clay, sand containing humus. And then you might ask, what's humus? Well humus is formed by decon pr decomposition of leaves and other plant material by soil microorganisms. Right.

Mr Fun (38:30)
That's why you should always throw your pumpkin seeds in

your compost pile. Really? Yeah. Hey, you know, how

Biff (38:35)
Right. Right. That's right. But then go ahead.

Mr Fun (38:38)
did they get the 3000 pound pumpkin? They got it to California.

Biff (38:42)
Yep. To get it by a truck.

Mr Fun (38:43)
Really?

Biff (38:44)
Yeah, that's it. So then this final one on the on the on the growing thing. A single giant pumpkin may need three hundred to twelve hundred square feet of growing area for one pumpkin. The size of a small house to grow one pumpkin. Which is crazy to me.

Lucky (38:58)
All right. So if you're that guy

in in Rhode Island and you're gonna be in the fifty third world pup largest pumpkin

Biff (39:03)
Yeah.

Lucky (39:04)
thing, and you okay, so you're this it's you're this time last year and you're starting to get ready to so you know, get your soil ready or whatever. Do you do you plant a couple of pumpkins?

Like are you

Mr Fun (39:14)
Yeah!

Lucky (39:15)
only like two

Biff (39:15)
Yep.

Lucky (39:16)
or three?

Mr Fun (39:16)
Yeah, now.

Biff (39:17)
yeah, I would

think so. It says to grow giant keep you ultimate you start with a a few, but then you start trimming off the vines of those that you don't think are going to be big enough. So then it directs all the energy to a single pumpkin. So you don't have hangers on for the

Lucky (39:29)
Uh-huh. Okay.

Biff (39:31)
the pumpkins. So that's that is a a secret point.

Mr Fun (39:33)
Hey, you guys know how they celebrate Halloween in Alabama? You guys know they pumpkin, they pumpkin. Hey, you know there's a hockey player that is half pumpkin. He's half pumpkin, half human. He's Gordy Howell. Have you heard of Gordy? Gordy? No?

Biff (39:52)
Gordy Howell.

Lucky (39:52)
He's retired.

Biff (39:53)
Gordy Howell. Speaking of which, we did and and any and in our NHL segue, Ovechkin

Mr Fun (39:59)
We have one.

Biff (39:59)
Ovechkin just announced he's retiring at the end of the season, leading goal scoring. Yeah.

Mr Fun (40:02)
I didn't know we were still playing. I gotta be honest with you.

Biff (40:05)
Twenty two years, same team.

Lucky (40:06)
They sort of knew this was gonna be his last year. Yeah. All

Biff (40:09)
But he announced it officially. So good.

Mr Fun (40:09)
Yeah.

Lucky (40:11)
right. So speaking of announcements, all right, so I'm just curious what people's take on this. This this news is a a week or so old, but the Warner Brothers and Paramount merger

Biff (40:21)
Mm-hmm.

Lucky (40:22)
was basically approved, which was there was a big tug of war over the summer, about when Netflix was trying to buy Paramount as well, right? and but

But Warner Brothers Warren won out. Is that is right? Is that's basically how that

Biff (40:36)
Yep, they did. That's correct.

Lucky (40:37)
went. Yeah. Or the other way around. Paramount won out. And they were trying to acquire Warner. Yeah.

Biff (40:40)
Paramount begot Warner Brothers, yes. Yes.

Lucky (40:43)
But so the new the new combined Warner Brothers Paramount's gonna be called Sky Dance. But everyone is concerned about two two sort of big things are in the from a consumer perspective, people are worried about, besides prices going up. That's that's a given.

Because

the you know, the concentration of owning these brands, you know. but what's gonna happen with HBO? Because a lot of people HBO, we've we've recounted like the awards or whatever. HBO is usually at the top of the list in terms of producing some really great shows and movies. so is there any tinkering with HBO? And David Ellison, the the new CEO, basically said, We're not gonna touch HBO. It's a pro it's like the crown jewel of

This conglomerate of of media properties. So that's a positive. But they also said that the combined will make less movies. People are concerned before there were two basically movie production outfits and they're merging into one. And, you know, most movies don't make money. And so they're concerned that they're going to make less movies and the the consumer loses out on that. I don't know. What's

Mr Fun (41:53)
Mmm.

Lucky (41:53)
your guys' take on that?

Biff (41:54)
But

but okay, starting the last point. What's a movie anymore? Only shown in a movie theater, or is it a six-part series on on HBO? I mean, what what's more important at the end of the day for the the film community, if you want to call it that? The shorter two and a half hours or a longer form thing? That's the question. I don't know.

Lucky (42:13)
Well, maybe

yeah, maybe maybe the longer form thing people like to c consume in digestible pieces, right?

Biff (42:20)
Right.

Lucky (42:20)
Going forward. But but but

Mr Fun (42:22)
Speaking of which,

best thing on TV right now, East of Eden. Have you seen it? So good.

Biff (42:25)
I've got we we are we

Lucky (42:25)
I'm watching that too.

Biff (42:27)
we have one episode left. So we are we we it's yeah it's it's it's very,

Mr Fun (42:29)
It's so good. So do we. That's so funny. We have one episode left.

Biff (42:33)
very good. And I will say the gentleman was very good too. British show on on Netflix.

Mr Fun (42:36)
we haven't seen it yet.

Biff (42:37)
Yeah, that's very good. But I don't look,

Lucky (42:37)
Yeah. Well

Biff (42:39)
I think I think some of these things are overwrought. I mean what one Hollywood hasn't hasn't you know hit it out of the park that much lately. They've had a lot of sequels. The the Tom Cruise movie just flopped, Digger, which was 200 million dollars they spent on it, made eight million

Mr Fun (42:53)
What did you say?

Biff (42:54)
dollars.

I I can't say that again. Digger.

Lucky (42:55)
Yeah.

Biff (42:56)
Digger, like Digger Phelps. Hard yes, Digger. Okay.

Mr Fun (42:57)
Hard R, hard R, digger, go.

Biff (43:01)
Anyways, so who n who knows? You know, it it'll shake out at some point, obviously, but it's it's a lot of

Mr Fun (43:06)
Do know that

two of the major and other businesses, two of the top weed dispensaries merged and they created a joint venture?

Biff (43:14)
I I'm just gonna say it it's your third pot joke of the show. y yeah.

Mr Fun (43:17)
I know, I'm there today, I'm there. If anybody's out there, I have a need.

Lucky (43:19)
Yeah.

We're working on pot sponsors, so we're Mr. Fun is

Mr Fun (43:24)
Smoke responsibly.

Smoke responsibly. Is that really my third?

Lucky (43:27)
Okay. All

right. So w we'll watch this. We'll watch this and monitor this merge. the other big one

Mr Fun (43:32)
Very.

Lucky (43:33)
is like CBS and CNN. What's gonna happen? Is there gonna be a combination or a elimination? I'm I'm not gonna go into the politics, but

Mr Fun (43:38)
Large merge sent me, right? Large merge,

merge.

Biff (43:41)
Large merge.

From

Lucky (43:42)
Large merch.

Biff (43:43)
Pee Wee Herman.

Mr Fun (43:44)
So good, large bar sent me.

Lucky (43:47)
all right.

So have you guys been following this story, Biff? Maybe you're you're down at the beach more than us, but with what's going on with with Amazon down at the beach in Ocean City in particular?

Okay,

Biff (43:58)
I I'm not familiar. What is it?

Mr Fun (43:59)
What is it?

Lucky (44:01)
so with the you know the building of the data center and the you know the AI capabilities, the Amazon AWS has has infiltrated Worcester County.

And and basically it's been trying to put a facility down there and they got they got thwarted. But what they're what they are trying to do now is they have a line that goes all the way from Ireland underneath the ocean, and they want it to come up through Ocean City and end at the Ocean City Airport. And they need to build a little facility to connect this, you know, d data, data wire, data, you know, data channel.

to ocean and it's funny that they have ocean city as the as the spot, but that's where it is. And it's still a little bit of a controversy because, you know, Biff and I were talking about this one earlier, Mr. Funn. Like it really is not going to make an impact. Nobody's gonna see anything from a l in the in the in the county or whatever. It's not gonna really disrupt anyone, but the people in the county are like, what's in it for us? Like why, why are

neighborhood. And I think AWS in this situation is getting a little bit of the not in my backyard stuff when it comes to the data center stuff. So I don't know.

Mr Fun (45:10)
I have a question

and this is, I know nothing about this. There is a cable that's run from

Biff (45:16)
Yes.

Mr Fun (45:16)
Ireland to Ocean City. Ocean

Lucky (45:18)
Yes.

Mr Fun (45:19)
City is building the data center to what? Send information back to Europe? Like what's happening here?

Biff (45:25)
No. my my suspicion is it's

Lucky (45:26)
Y yeah, I mean

Biff (45:27)
a cable. They're transmitting data under the ocean. It's by the way, it's called the Salisbury Ocean City Airport. If you fly through other parts

Mr Fun (45:34)
Okay.

Biff (45:34)
of the country, it connects to it. They must be taking that to the hub to Lucky's Point, so it's coming inbound there, and then they're gonna somehow transmit that data to the Amazon Web Services. Somehow. Satellites.

Mr Fun (45:45)
What does Ireland have to do with all this?

Biff (45:47)
It's it's just faster to go and more reliable to go underwater. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Lucky (45:48)
Well, because data travels the world now. Data travels the world now. And

Mr Fun (45:50)
Sure.

Lucky (45:53)
so some of it lives in Europe that we would that are that we would need to to do whatever, whether it's s web searches or corporate uses or whatever. So there I don't think this is the first one the first of a kind, but it

Mr Fun (46:07)
Clear as mud.

I have no idea why we need a cable from Ireland. I'm so confused.

Biff (46:10)
No, but that's that's true

Lucky (46:10)
Well

Biff (46:11)
for a lot of things. There's a lot of telecommunications that goes underwater. It doesn't go

Mr Fun (46:15)
Yeah?

Biff (46:16)
via satellites. And there's there's probably there there's surely thousands and thousands of miles of undersea cable under the Pacific and the Atlantic, and that's what they do. And that's just it's but that but that's why they do it. Go but going

Mr Fun (46:25)
That's why I'm moving to a farm. That's why I'm gonna get a farmette. I want nothing to do with this stuff.

Biff (46:30)
back to your point, I think it's silly they are protesting this. They are a big big corporation. So what? So they're putting a building up in

It at the airport. It doesn't sound like it's a data center, and that people are protesting it like they want their share of what? I mean, companies build things all the time. And

Lucky (46:48)
Yeah.

Biff (46:48)
I'm not sure what they're what they're trying to do. They're a big target, obviously. They're a very very big company, but it strikes me as a bit of an overreaction.

Well, that's where we are. All right. Mr. Fun,

Lucky (46:55)
Yep. Yep. All right. That's about it.

Mr Fun (46:55)
Ha!

Biff (47:00)
yeah, Mr. Fun, we have we have blown through this episode.

And and speaking of blowing and your three pot jokes, do you have another joke that you can you can provide us to end the show?

Mr Fun (47:12)
Let's say, so there's two men and they, let's pretend they're us for a minute, but they meet at a bar and one of them looks like crap. Guy goes, well, what's going on with you? And he goes, I can't sleep. He's like, my girlfriend, my girlfriend wakes up every hour and says she wants to make love to me. So every hour I have to make love to her and I just can't, I can't function. And this old man across the bar over here is the whole thing. And he goes,

that's a woman you should marry. And the guy goes, why should I marry her? And he goes, because once you marry her, you'll sleep like a baby. She won't want to have sex with all, I'm sorry.

Lucky (47:50)
Why would we pretend that was us?

Biff (47:51)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right. All right. but

Mr Fun (47:52)
I idea. It didn't go in. It didn't work.

Biff (47:57)
