Biff (00:00)
Hello, everybody. Welcome to Laugh Smart with your host Biff, Lucky, and Mr. Fun. We're gonna try something a little different this week. We're gonna start with a joke right out of the gate. Do you have one, Mr. Fun? Sure, sure. The sad guy, this guy walks into a bar, he's looking really sad. Bartender says, What's wrong? And he takes a big huff. He says, I just found out my wife is sleeping with another man. And so I tried to kill myself, but I just don't have the courage. So the bartender says, Well, I don't do that. He said,
Do what I would do. If I found out my wife was sleeping with another man, I'd kill him. So the guy gets up and leaves. And the bartender says, I wonder what that was all about. He comes back in about two hours later with a big smile on his face and the bartender thinks, my God, did you kill somebody? And he goes, Nope, I just slept with your wife.
Lucky (00:48)
Okay.
Biff (00:48)
What? Wait.
Yeah,
Lucky (00:53)
I think what
Biff (00:54)
I'm not sure. See, so he didn't have the courage. Yes. Right. And the guy said if I found out I would kill him. Yeah. So he slept with his wife so that the boy cut Right, that could be it. We had we we had taco night tonight.
Lucky (01:06)
I I don't think you guys drank enough margaritas before the show to get us going out of the
gate.
Biff (01:12)
Yeah, we talk today. So before we move on any further after that, that opening salvo I can do another one. Mr. Yeah, why don't cut that one out? Why not? No, you know, I'm not gonna cut it out. All right, let's see. My wife told me it really bothered her that I was getting fat. So I said, What do you want me to do? And she said, I want you to walk five miles a day. So I said, Okay, I'll walk five miles a day. So I walk five miles a day for 120 days, and I said,
Have I do I look better now? And she goes, I don't know, you're six hundred miles away. No. That's that's good. I think that's good. All right. I think that's good. Sounds good.
Lucky (01:53)
Was she on FaceTimes looking at you, Mr. Fond? you call her and FaceTime. Okay.
Biff (01:56)
I call there. I call there. You call there. I call there.
Yeah. Before moving on, I want to thank our sponsors, Scotty's vodka, Maryland Made, Maryland Smooth, Tackle Up Bethany Beach for all your performance fishing apparel. Go to TackleUpBB dot com. use the code LAF15 to get a fifteen percent discount. And finally, because he's been with us from the beginning, Rockfish and the River Men.
And Rockfish sent a joke in. Do you remember it off the top of your head? Yeah. Mr. Fun. So we will look that up. but he sent a pretty good joke in. Yeah. previously sent you money, but now he sent me sending a joke in. speaking of which, I got of the one dollar challenge. I got a dollar sent to me this week. So you have half as much as me. I have half as much as me. Okay, got it. Do you have any dollars sent to you? You have zero.
Lucky (02:41)
I have zero. I have zero. Nothing.
Biff (02:44)
I d you've got to ask start asking for more lucky. Don't give him anything. Don't no you
Lucky (02:48)
Mr. Fine,
send me one of your dollars.
Biff (02:51)
yeah, share that. We should move that dollar around. And just so those that didn't listen to that episode, which was three episodes ago, it was based on the fact that just if you went out to your friends or your group, Facebook, LinkedIn, wherever, and asked for a dollar, how many dollars would you keep no explanation, just please send me a dollar. Please send me a dollar. And so part of that discussion, Mr. Fun's gotten two dollars and I've gotten a dollar. The fund they're just rolling in right now. They're rolling in. I appreciate everybody. I love the love. Yeah.
Lucky (03:20)
I'm s I'm I'm gonna see a bunch of our friends in a couple of days. I'm hoping they all have dollars in their pocket and they give it to me when I see them.
Biff (03:25)
No, no, no. They
to send it to you. They have to send it to you via PayPal or Sal. Yeah.
Lucky (03:28)
I'll take it in hand a hand up.
Biff (03:31)
All right. So I was I was playing golf this afternoon and Jeff B of Dagsborough, who's a loyal listener now, came up to me just with a smile on his face and just went, White clawing. white clawing it. Because he listens to the show. One of the first listeners we get when I released the podcast at five in the morning. Yes. He listens to it right after. It's a new term meaning self pleasure while drinking.
Right. Again, we had the debate last week. Does it have to be with a white claw? Well, you wanted to know whether they had to be Caucasian or not. No, I d I said if it wasn't with
Lucky (04:01)
No, I think it's a drinking.
Biff (04:02)
a white claw drink, it sounds like something only a Caucasian would do.
Lucky (04:05)
No, here it
is. The white claw is an alcoholic beverage, so that's just a generic term for a vr we'll call it for any alcoholic beverage, but the clawing part Yeah.
Biff (04:11)
Okay. I tried to explain that to I tried to explain that to Biff. I tried to explain it to
Biff. Okay. I just want to make sure I understand the the rules. You know, I want to understand the rules that you break all the time. All right, all right. What else did we hear from last week, Lucky?
Lucky (04:28)
okay, so we talked about the flock, the s license plate reading cameras last week.
Biff (04:34)
Cameras. Yep.
Lucky (04:35)
I don't know what it is about us and our news reporting, but when we break a story, it's like proliferates throughout the mainstream media. Like I I couldn't go anywhere this week without seeing a story about the flock cameras or the deflocking campaign. I don't know.
Biff (04:54)
Yeah. Yeah.
Lucky (04:55)
Did did you guys notice that?
Biff (04:56)
I I I d it was the next day after we we recorded it, we it was everywhere that I started reading about it. Which I did laugh when I I wrote the headline. Flock me, no flock you. That's funny. That was a pretty good line, I thought. Yeah, I'm sorry. That was
Lucky (05:11)
So I
saw I saw an article today where there's
Biff (05:14)
That hurts.
Lucky (05:15)
a guy, I think he's in Florida, and there's a flock camera where he lives. And what he's what he did was he got a lawn chair with a pool skimmer, you know, with a long had a long pole on it, and basically sat in the chair and used the pole skimmer to block the flock reader reader. And the police said it's okay that he's doing that.
Biff (05:37)
Meaning so he when a car was driving by, he'd hold up the pull skimmer and block the camera. Who is
Lucky (05:41)
Yes. Yes.
Biff (05:42)
this? This is a person with much too much time on their hands.
Lucky (05:45)
Well, it's somebody who's a b a big fan of the D flock you know, effort movement, you know, 'cause he's fake he he doesn't want anybody reading his license plate or any but
any of his neighbours.
Biff (05:54)
What's the hope that
someday they'll take down the camera because of the guy with the pool thing? Pole skinner skimmer?
Lucky (05:59)
I've read another
article, people are are destroying these things in a at a pr at pretty brisk pace. So
Biff (06:05)
Yeah.
Lucky (06:06)
you know, people are unhappy about some people are very unhappy.
Biff (06:08)
I don't want to encourage that.
Yeah, I don't want to encourage that, but it's probably a better method than the pool skimmer. What I mean, if you're gonna destroy, you're gonna destroy if you're gonna stand there for a few hours a day with the pool skimmer. You're like you're just a loser. Sorry, he's probably a very nice man. Very nice, paranoid man.
Lucky (06:25)
So an an another another quick one. Biff
mentioned that he was all happy because he saw a whale. Did you have a whale sighting Biff?
Biff (06:33)
Yeah.
We had a it was it was passed on. It was a video that was sent North Bethany Beach. There was a a group of dolphins and then shortly thereafter there was a whale that breached, like it was coming up and feeding on fish or what have you. Right. And so it was sent around, it was confirmed that the the whale was offshore. But people before it was confirmed immediately shot back, it's AI. Nobody believed it was the whale.
You know for a fact it was a whale? No, well I I believe the person that told me it was by a number of people that saw it. Yeah. But but those that weren't in town said, Well, that's AI. Yeah, that's a problem with AI. And then another guy said who who is a a pilot that takes boats up the Delaware Bay ships. Yeah. He goes, Well, the water's not deep enough. Like, how do you know the water's not deep enough a hundred yards offshore? Right. Because a whale needs thirty feet apparently of a water. Who never? And but it was a
It was cool. It was a it was, you know, we Lucky and I were on our Alaska trip and saw whales, you know, breaching and all that. It's cool. That whale had got circumcised. They sent out four skin divers. Four four skin divers.
Lucky (07:37)
Not bad.
So I am I am on assignment this week. I am not in the Del Marva. I'm not on and on the mainland in
Biff (07:47)
Yeah.
Lucky (07:48)
Maryland. I'm in Maine this this
Biff (07:50)
Yeah.
Lucky (07:51)
week and I am the in the capital there's probably mo you know, whale watching is like a dime a dozen here in in
Biff (07:58)
Okay.
Lucky (07:59)
in in Bar Harbor, Maine. So you saw your one. There's like I saw like a a ship of like a hundred and fifty people going out to watch whales this evening when we went out to dinner. So
Biff (08:10)
But you didn't you have
Lucky (08:11)
Whatever that's
Biff (08:11)
not seen a whale.
Lucky (08:13)
We have not no, we haven't gone whale watching here. No. No.
Biff (08:16)
Did you
did you take your underwear off in a sign of unity with the whales? So you could free Willy? jeez. Free Willy. No. What is
Lucky (08:24)
No, I did not free Willy.
so the part and I'll give you a little bit of a story in a bit about my trip up here, but we are driving home tomorrow with
Biff (08:35)
Mm-hmm.
Lucky (08:36)
a truck full of stuff, two dogs, you know, a 13 hour trip. And I was reading just doing some reading about like what's going on around, you know, like any traffic things going on between here and Maryland. And I there was a story about there was a a
a truck in Rhode Island that basically crashed, a tractor trailer was carrying carrying thousands of pounds of squid that got basically s spewed all over the road. It basically jacked up traffic for like a l a ton of time. so I'm I'm gonna w be watching out for the squid on the way home. So
Biff (09:10)
Okay. Since we've talked about whales and last week we talked about a murder of crows, which is a group of crows. Yep. I'm gonna go off on a slight tangent here 'cause I got a list of different animals and I'm gonna ask you a question, you tell I do you want me to give you what it's what it is first and then you say what animal it is, or you want me to animal Yeah. Okay. So I'll I have a better chance of that. Okay. Are we rotating or me we're competing? What are we doing? You can just scoot them out there. All right. So a
I'm just gonna start with whales. A whale a group of whales is a pod. So I would say a guess that okay, that was whales. Okay. What is a colony? ants. Ants. That is good. Okay. What is a cackle? A cackle of geese. Nope. Any champs? What? Cackle of it it's gonna make
Lucky (09:54)
I don't know.
Biff (09:54)
sense when I say it. Hyenas. I get
Lucky (09:57)
yeah.
Biff (09:57)
it. I get it. There there seems to be sort of a homosexual theme on some of these. What? What is a flamboyance?
Lucky (10:05)
flamingos.
Biff (10:06)
There he got it. yes. What a shock you got that. Yeah. Okay, look at that.
Lucky (10:09)
I know that. That's my specialty.
Biff (10:10)
Yeah. what is a convocation? that's where nuns belong. That's okay. Club. No. It's penguin.
Lucky (10:18)
Penguins.
Biff (10:19)
Nope. Velociraptor. Are we best friends? no, that is a eagles. Eagles are what? A convocation. Convocation. Okay. What is a tower? A tower is a that's a group of giraffes.
Got it? No way. You got it. What? Tower. That's really good. I'll do
Lucky (10:39)
It's pretty good.
Biff (10:39)
one more. I'll do one more here just so we can what is a leap? A leap. That's a got it.
Lucky (10:47)
Leopards. Leopards.
Biff (10:50)
Nice very good. So I'll keep this list. We should bring this out. It's there's it's a great list. Keep the list. My my dad, I remember the last time I spoke to my dad, I was playing this game with him and I I asked him I I said, where is a
he went out to try to find a a pack of camels and he didn't come back. A pack of camels. A pack of camels. There's something there, right? Well it's there. Sorry. That's good. lucky you had travel woes you were mentioning?
Lucky (11:24)
Okay.
All right. So if you if you're a l a loyal listener, you remember that I came up to Maine earlier the summer in June. And what I did was I drove a truck up with two dogs and a and a truck full of stuff and I flew home. Okay. Well, we reversed that this time. We flew back up here, and tomorrow we are going to drive the truck home, okay, with the dogs. American Airlines is one of the few airlines that flies into
we flew into Bangor, Maine. It's a very small airport. it's about an hour ish, hour and a half-ish to Bar Harbor, Maine, which is where we're staying. My flight was supposed to take off at two o'clock and land at four o'clock. I didn't get in until midnight. Okay. Now listen, there were nine excuses that I kept collected that were the reason why my plane was eight hours late.
Biff (12:22)
Okay.
Lucky (12:23)
Here they are.
The first one. We get a note saying our our plane is 30 minutes delayed before we even left the house. We got an e automated email. Instead of two, your flight's gonna be at 230. Okay, we can handle that.
Biff (12:36)
Okay. Yeah.
Lucky (12:39)
Okay, so we're getting it's two o'clock. It's about time to get boarding. The they come on and say, Hey, we need 10 more minutes because we need our airplane to cool off. Okay,
Biff (12:50)
Okay.
Lucky (12:51)
it was hot. They need to let the air conditioning run. Okay.
Then they said, hey, we're waiting for a new crew. We're going to be delayed for a little bit longer.
Biff (13:01)
Mm.
Lucky (13:01)
Then they said, we need to wait for a new plane to come from Indianapolis.
Biff (13:07)
Yeah.
Lucky (13:08)
Then they said, what, okay, so then finally we got on the plane. We're sitting there for 20 minutes before we left the gate. Okay, we started taxing and we take did so that we're about to take off. We abruptly stop for 30 minutes. Nobody knows what's going on.
Pilot comes on and says, Hey, we we may need to take a different route. So we're recalculating if we have enough fuel or not. That took about
Biff (13:33)
Okay.
Lucky (13:33)
20 minutes. They apparently needed more fuel, so we taxi back to the gate. They fueled up, which was another 45 minutes. We start to progress to the takeoff. They stopped again. 10-minute delay on the tarmac for traffic management. It was the worst.
flight that I've ever had, the worst customer service, the worst it was like they basically lied to us about what was going on along the the the basically the eight hours of delays that we had. It was it
Biff (14:02)
Were you showing your
displeasure? Were you showing your displeasure?
Lucky (14:05)
So Mrs. Lucky went to the customer service, American Airlines, and said, Hey, what's going on here? They said, Okay, for your for your pain and suffering, here's a twelve dollar meal voucher for the airport. I'm like, what can you can't get anything if in the in the airport for twelve bucks?
Biff (14:24)
Maybe a cookie. So what
Lucky (14:25)
A cookie.
Biff (14:26)
okay, you've flown enough, Lucky. What do you think the real issue was? So it was
Lucky (14:32)
I have no idea.
Biff (14:33)
was it because was your plane full? Or was there another flight they canceled? They're trying to wedge people onto
Lucky (14:36)
no, no, no.
Biff (14:38)
it?
Lucky (14:39)
so I ha I happened to chat up one of the co pilots of our of our flight before we actually got on the plane and he was spit the the whatever crew. Whatever crew was and
Biff (14:45)
From the first crew or the second crew? From the first crew or the second crew. All right.
Lucky (14:52)
he did spill the beans for American Airlines. He said that DCA, Ronald Reagan Airport, overbooks they have too many flights coming in for such a s small airport, and anytime anywhere in the
country that something's and a plane's coming in to DCA or something happens on the ground at DCAA or the president decides to you know go
Biff (15:13)
Right.
Lucky (15:13)
somewhere and they got a clear airspace it it messes up every flight for that day. Everything it's a cascade of of issues. I think that is you know there was probably three or four things that started it off at the beginning of the day and all of a sudden everything was haywire. So yeah. Okay. And I heard it you go ahead.
Biff (15:29)
Wow. Wow. So so what did you go ahead?
Lucky (15:35)
Go ahead.
Biff (15:34)
Nope. I was I was suing American Airline for
losing a small piece of my luggage, but it turned out I lost that case.
Lucky (15:42)
You did lose that case.
Biff (15:43)
Yeah.
Lucky (15:44)
I heard I heard one of the this one. We're sitting in the airport, you know, we're probably six or seven excuses in, and another plane was delayed because it had too much fuel and they had the de fuel. I'm like,
Biff (15:57)
Mm.
Lucky (15:58)
what's going on here? Like, so I'm not
Biff (16:01)
Ha ha.
Lucky (16:01)
a big fan of American Airlines these days. I it was the worst experience, like I said, I've ever had. And I'm I'm not, you know, I'm not I'm probably not gonna do AI again.
Biff (16:12)
Wow. A. Speaking of AA, which is a good segue. Yeah, very like this into the non alcoholic drink segment that we were going to talk about. Yeah. So y did you y one, did you use your twelve dollar voucher for a drink? And if you did, would you have bought a non alcoholic or an alcoholic drink if you did? At that point.
Lucky (16:28)
I used my twelve dollar voucher. I went to the the the newsstand and got a stickers bar. It's like a four dollar stickers
Biff (16:35)
Okay.
Lucky (16:36)
bar. So I was like, All right, I have eight bucks left on it, right? I've
Biff (16:39)
Yeah.
Lucky (16:39)
read the fine print, you you're only allowed to use it once. I forfeited the other eight dollars. I'm sitting there I
Biff (16:44)
No.
Lucky (16:45)
was so pissed. I was so pissed.
Biff (16:48)
Wow. Not a good day. Not a good day.
Lucky (16:51)
Anyway, so
when I did get on the plane, I did have a drink, but but to your point about non-alcoholic drinks, have you guys heard of RK, that company? Did
Biff (17:01)
Nope. Nope.
Lucky (17:01)
we ever talk about this? So RK it they claim to be they're a pioneer in alcohol free spirits. They have they have alcohol they have non alcoholic whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, tequila, brandy.
And I was thinking to myself, and this company's been in in business since 2011, but I'm I'm thinking to myself, what is non-alcoholic vodka? What is that?
Biff (17:28)
Yeah.
Well what alcoholic drink do you drink because you enjoy the taste? Besides beer? Like is there one that you drink? Like maybe a margarita?
Lucky (17:37)
there's there's no I don't drink any alcohol.
I don't I don't drink any alcohol straight. I drink most alcohol hard alcohol with something in it. A margarita with the you know, the the sour mix. Yeah.
Biff (17:47)
Right. I see. I see. Yeah, there's there's no
alcohol that I I don't know. Non alcoholic whiskey? Bourbon? But but a bourbon has a distinct taste. But if it tastes like if you wanted a a mocktail that was an old fashioned to get that you'd have to have a non-alcoholic bourbon. Yeah. Right? Or a whiskey or something like that. Yeah. For a Manhattan, if you like those sorts.
Lucky (18:08)
Yeah. But
but but this company is is going gangbusters. They are they are, you know, 'cause, you know, people are drinking less. you know, they're the you have other like the weed stuff that's sort of, you know, taking over for recreational, you know, consumption or whatever. But I I just don't get drinking non alcohol alcohol. It just doesn't make any sense
Biff (18:30)
Right.
Lucky (18:31)
to me.
Biff (18:32)
So I will as I've been called zebra striping, is that what it is when I drink non alcoholic beer? Right. So I have started because then I called a lot of things, but we'll get looking at a little bit. So I I remember a guy that it was a car dealer that I knew in Atlanta who had stopped drinking years ago, but when he would go out, he would drink club soda with bitters. Okay. Bitters is goes in an old fashioned and other drinks because he it must remind him of drinking alcohol.
So I've been ordering club soda with bitters because it has sort of an alcohol taste to it. Okay. So I don't drink it as fast. Okay. And it makes me feel like I'm drinking alcohol. Okay. When I'm not. Right. So I get it. I get why people do it. It has aromatics and all this other stuff. You're looking at me like you just interest it. I would just drink a club soda. Really? Yeah. Yeah. I've done that on occasion. But rarely, but on occasion. But it's to me it it just gives you the feeling like you're having a drink. Yeah.
Lucky (19:29)
So one
Biff (19:30)
Okay.
Lucky (19:30)
one of one of RK's
angles is they have this stuff they call it warm technology. It's basically
Biff (19:36)
Right.
Lucky (19:37)
what they're going for is the sensory experience. So when you drink sometimes when you drink alcohol, it's like warm going down. That's
Biff (19:44)
yeah, yeah.
Lucky (19:45)
that's their tech. So they're not going for taste. They're going for how it makes you feel. And
Biff (19:51)
Okay.
Lucky (19:51)
apparently it's taking off. People like the sensation of drink having a warm sensation going down their, you know, down into their stomach or whatever.
Biff (19:58)
They
they invented
Lucky (19:59)
no, muchas.
Biff (19:59)
this stuff for you know, people who were struggling with alcoholism who wanted to become lawyers because when they drank they couldn't pass the bar. Jeez. They couldn't they'd have to go into it. Here's my next segue though. So he said it's warm going down, but it's warm coming out like pea. I know what you know they're doing. All right just for fun. They are cooling data centers with pea.
You love you love the transition. I love the transition. You love the transition. You're all about transitioning. Yes, I am all about transitioning. That's very funny. So which I don't I th I find this to be unbelievable, Lucky. What is the P cooling data centers?
Lucky (20:34)
So the
company Liquid Death, who makes basically kit water in a can, and there's another
Biff (20:40)
Yeah.
Lucky (20:41)
company called Garage Beer, and Jason Kelsey have come together and they formed there's this new environmental initiative where they are collecting people's pee. And what basically what they want to do is they they have these collectible, sealable pee mugs. And instead of you peeing in the toilet, they want people to pee in these sealable mugs.
Biff (21:03)
Do they pay me? Will they pay me?
Lucky (21:03)
And they collect them. What's that?
Biff (21:06)
Will they pay me? No.
Lucky (21:08)
No, no, I think it's just a donation. But
y and basically they're collecting all and they're gonna use the this the the donated P to basically keep the servers cool in date in data center.
Biff (21:20)
Why P?
Lucky (21:22)
Because it's just there. It's like a free liquid.
Biff (21:23)
is there because
it it doesn't have to be it doesn't have to be clean liquid it can just be pee right it's just okay it's just a liquid that's got no other use now here's a question so when when you pee in your house right it goes down it goes like our house here segregates the the the clear liquid like dishwashing soap and other stuff and pee versus poop that goes into a septic septic system. Okay I'm learning I'm just learning something when you pee
Does your pea go to a sanitation a water fil what do they call water filtration plant, what do they call it, or where the water sanitation plant is. Do they clean that and put that big in back in drinking water? I don't know. I tell people it goes to the ocean. Do they I tell people it goes to the ocean. I have no idea where my pea goes. No, I guess my point is is that
Lucky (22:11)
The pedal knockout.
Biff (22:12)
couldn't they just go to some place and say, Well, just give us your effluent water which is the stuff that has pea in it. Is that what effluent means? I believe so.
I can look it up. Another word. I thought that meant you were influential. No, it doesn't mean you're rich. Okay, got it.
Lucky (22:25)
I think it's
the novelty. The novelty of it of of people wanting to do their small part as opposed to just peeing in the toilet and assume it goes somewhere, you know.
Biff (22:33)
But would you
ever hey honey, pee in this mug and set it aside so we can give it to Jason Kelsey and company to pick it up? Would you ever do that?
Lucky (22:42)
There's a lot
of controversy with these data centers and people are pissed about literally and figur figuratively.
Biff (22:47)
Just
about did you ever did you ever get caught peeing in a pool? I did. I got caught by the lifeguard, but I probably should not have been standing on the diving board when I was doing it. No, there is controversy about the data centers. I agree with you on that. And and I was talking to somebody from Northern Virginia, Loudoun County this week, who's very upset about it, about their electric electricity bills have gone up so much, you know, that's the noise, the you know, the the the brownouts and all that stuff with power. Right.
brown out. Sort of. Right? I don't know. I'm with Not
Lucky (23:18)
Really? Look at us.
Biff (23:20)
everything. Not everything has to be a joke. Right? That's what my wife tells me. Not everything has to be a joke. But anyways, I it's a that's a that's that is still a major issue in this country are the the data centers. But the cooling the P thing for the data centers just seems odd. It does. I wouldn't tell anybody. I would just use it. Right.
Lucky (23:35)
Whatever it takes to save the environment, you know.
Biff (23:38)
That's right.
So
big news this week came out of state college. Penn State University in the cocaine ring. The run by a twenty four-year-old. What's his nickname? his nickname, well, his f his real name, let's go nil real real name first, is Agostino Abitiello, twenty-four. he's twenty four. Which very nerdy, but but he's known because he was because one of the things he was doing with cocaine was having pledges sell the cocaine or traffic the cocaine at Penn State.
But his so his nickname is Pablo Pledskobar. That's fine. Which is a great name. Yeah. For a guy that's And he thought he wasn't gonna get caught. I don't know how. He's right running through two off site fraternities, off campus fraternities, Delta Opswan and Sigma Chi. Okay. At Penn State but not associated with the university. Right. That's how they do it there. That's how they're doing it there. And they were, you know
He's from Long Island. He had another guy, Thomas Robinson, and Thomas Robinson's father somehow is involved with this too. he's aiding and abetting somehow. But they were there thirteen defendants selling large quantities of cocaine that came out of Philadelphia and New York and trafficking it to Penn State students.
Lucky (24:51)
So we're all Maryland fans, and we've if if you've grown up being a Maryland fan, you don't like Penn State pre predominantly because of the football relationship that we have had. You know, we they I think we've beaten them one time, they beat us a bunch of times. But what is going on up there? Like they have so many controversies up at Penn State. Pedophile, you, you know, yeah, but still, those are
Biff (25:09)
You think? That was a while ago though. I'm not trying to defend them.
Lucky (25:14)
major things.
Biff (25:15)
Yeah. Well, it's a it's a you know, think about Penn State. It's it's a it's a huge university, right? It's gotta have fifty thousand students or something like that. Some some and and and it's a you know, anything that's that size is i bound to have some some people that aren't gonna do great things, right? Whatever it might be. I will grant you the the Joe Paterno controversy, what was the guy's name?
any other times. To to Stanowski to No, no, he was he was also the name of a sportscaster in Baltimore. I'm trying to remember
Lucky (25:44)
Greg
k or Sandusky.
Biff (25:47)
No, well we'll we'll we'll
Sandusky. Yeah, Sandusky was there, right? So that's a that's a bad thing for sure. But you know, some of these things are going to happen. But the other thing is there's nothing else to do in State College, Pennsylvania. There's nothing around there. Yeah. I think some of it just probably comes right. They're isolated. Yeah. It's gonna be a great
Lucky (26:04)
Here's my
Biff (26:04)
white out. It'll be a great white out when they when they play that game. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, I
Lucky (26:07)
White out game. Here's my
Biff (26:10)
I was offered cocaine at at at our fraternity, but I that's where I drew the line.
That's why I drew the line. I don't like jok I
Lucky (26:18)
Yeah, it's
Biff (26:19)
don't like making jokes about cocaine. I don't like making but a good one liner will make me snort every once in a while. Sorry.
Lucky (26:27)
Okay. Here's
my theory on this on this story, how b because it's so big. Every whenever there's a fraternity involved, the non fraternity people want to run for their fraternities through the mud. So you know
Biff (26:40)
Yeah. Yeah.
Lucky (26:41)
how many you know how many cocaine controversies are there are across the country? A lot. Okay, this
Biff (26:45)
Right.
Lucky (26:46)
is not the only, you know, mini ring that was broken up, but they love to focus in on the fraternities and think, you know, this is systemic, you know.
You know, but it's again I I think it's an isolated incidence of some bad apples that, you know, happen to be going to Penn State and happen to be in fraternity. So that's why.
Biff (27:01)
It it it also
sounded like a bit like you know, multi-level marketing, like AM way, things like that. Yeah. So 'cause one of the one co defendant told investigators he purchased over fifty thousand dollars worth of the drug to then distribute. Wow. So he he was wholesaling it. Yeah. To these other guys, yeah, who were then were then selling it. So but
Lucky (27:20)
Well, at least he'll get an A in his marketing class, right? In the business school.
Biff (27:24)
I think the business school. He he he might do well. Yeah, good for that. But it is a
If when you see the photos of them too. And of course they take which to Lucky's point, like the stereotypical wearing the blue blazer and the tie photo. But also when they got arrested, they were wearing suits. Really? Yeah. You've got you see these photos. You know how like mugshots are really bad. Yeah, but you see this kid, Pablo Bletchcobar. He just got this deer in the headlights look. But then the father of the one kid, he's got this he's got a suit on too. I've just like what are these
I think they're like mafia or something. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, I think it's probably involved somewhere. Crazy the mafia. Crazy. So but anyways, Lucky's right. It's a it is a chance 'cause that it's salacious and they like to take fraternities down. Yep. Yeah. It happens. what else, Lucky?
Lucky (28:10)
So there's been a lot of news about Burger King recently and and I caught my eye again. We talked you know, a couple weeks ago or month month or so ago about the demise of five guys. we've talked about I think two two weeks ago about McDonald's and their value meal and how the and the dip you know, the McDonald's sales are been going down. But you know who's kicking their butt is Burger King, which for me, like I've never been a Burger King fan.
But it's crazy to see what Burger King is doing to close the gap in the Burger Wars against McDonald's and Wendy's. So I don't know if you guys have followed this, but so one of the big th cool things that Burger King now does is that they have a a phone number published that they can you can call the president of the company and and expect to pick up a call or get a call back or get a response back. So the president of the company, Tom Curtis, is is
He announced in February he's he he he'll take phone calls and let customers, you know, give him, you know, feedback on what's going on. So like he he says in May he personally took eighteen hundred calls and was in the mix with seventy thousand customer communications that were sent in from customers, which I think is pretty cool. you know.
Biff (29:24)
So but
this is all this is on the heels of the Whopper, right? I heard it's good. I heard the Whopper's really good now. That's the thing, right?
Lucky (29:30)
Whopper has
a new Whopper has a new ingredients. They have a new bun, reformulated
Biff (29:34)
Yeah. Yeah.
Lucky (29:35)
mayonnaise, and a different kind of box that they deliver the the the the burger in as opposed to the paper, which it used to be, and basically twenty percent increase in sales since they revamped their their burger in February, which is crazy.
Biff (29:51)
I wonder how much is do you ever do Grubhub? I never do. Kids do. Do you do Grubhub? 'Cause you can get fast food at at through Grub Grubhub, right? Imagine that's part of their calculus, right? Is to keep a burger warm that they can then deliver. I gotta imagine.
Lucky (30:06)
Well, I
I think I think the box is a little bit more like higher end than the paper.
Biff (30:14)
Yeah.
Lucky (30:15)
I think the and so you get some perceived value, more value from your burger purchase in a box than wrapped in paper. I think.
Biff (30:23)
Yeah. It also
expanded quite a bit in the Middle East, but and they serve it the people wear traditional garb. They it's called Burker King. Burka. Burka King. Burka. It's Berk Burka King. Your your New Jersey came out. Burka. The people know. The people know what I'm saying.
Lucky (30:42)
But between but between Wendy's McDonald's
and Burger King, what's the what what's the one you've eaten you've eaten at last?
Biff (30:48)
McDonald's. wait, last? Of the burger journey. Yeah, definitely McDonald's. There's just more of them. There's more of them.
Lucky (30:55)
McDonald's burger, put
aside the breakfast. Not not breakfast. Just
Biff (30:58)
But but there's more of that. I there's just I don't you know, living here in in Delaware, I don't know where there's burger. I don't know where there's a burger king. Yeah, that's a shame. 'Cause I'd like to try that Whopper. I really would. But there's three McDonalds I'm aware of. Yeah. Are they cooking the Whopper differently? Like I heard it tastes like a real burger now. It has a different ingredients, right? Well, I don't know.
Lucky (31:17)
Fla flame it'
flame but it's still flame broiled. That's one of their that's one of their you know, their my way at barbecue, yeah.
Biff (31:22)
Can I have it my way? Isn't that their thing? Two all
geez, yeah. There there was a song. Yeah. They burger. Yeah, got it. Yeah. So there do you I speaking of paper. So remember we're old enough now that remember when burgers came in styrofoam? Yes. And then ironically, they went to boxes. Right? I think the next one after styrofoam containers was a box, but now you go to McDonald's and a Big Mac comes in paper. Right? I think that's true.
Lucky (31:50)
It does? No,
it comes in a box. Yeah.
Biff (31:51)
I think it's does it come in a box? You ever
have a fillet of fish? I have. Been a long time. Yeah, I wouldn't have one of those, I don't think. Why? What about a McRib? I've had Yeah. I find odd. I I think they 'cause they become you know cult like. Yeah. 'Cause they're they don't offer it all the time, McRib. Right. But I d I just find it the it's reconstituted pork. You get the green shake? What's that thing called? McF shamrock shake. You get those. I bet you got those. I don't recall that I have.
Lucky (32:16)
That's super popular.
Biff (32:18)
What's that? I don't recall that I have. No, okay.
I do like have a shake, but as we've talked about the the shake machines are broken all the time. That's what they say. I'm you know, I'm just I'm just you know, I go with this the same thing every time. I love getting a double cheeseburger meal from McDonalds. Fries, Diet Coke, 'cause I'm w watching my wife
Lucky (32:36)
I don't know. I think I I
when I ri when I drive past the Burger King, I I'm not a big fast food person, but I'm I'm gonna try the new Whopper. I'm gonna try
Biff (32:44)
I am too. I I will do it. Get
two, get two. Get in a box so they'll last longer. Mr.
Lucky (32:48)
Yeah.
Biff (32:50)
Funn and I had breakfast yesterday. We got a shout out to our server, Vanessa. She's very nice. And she also works at Parkway in Bethesda. She's double dipping, she's got two jobs. but she's a new listener to the show. She said she would listen in. She told some jokes which we cannot tell. They were they were crazy racial jokes. Yeah. Even for me. Yeah. They made And then she she's like
I'm Mexican. You have any Mexican jokes? So I let her have it. A few Mexican jokes that again can't be repeated on. She enjoyed So it was good. So she enjoyed
them.
Lucky (33:22)
All right.
Speaking of a woman, okay, I'm a big Guinness book of world's record.
Biff (33:26)
Yeah. Okay.
Lucky (33:29)
okay, okay, I'm gonna quiz you guys on this. So UAB U United Arab Emirates woman recently broke the Guinness World Record.
Biff (33:38)
An Emirati. An Emirati. Yes.
Lucky (33:40)
Yes. She's twenty nine
years old. Sh okay, she broke the world record for the amount of words, the number of words she could write on a sticky note. How many how many words do you think you could write on a sticky note?
Biff (33:50)
Yeah. And and just so we're clear. Six hundred
and eighty. Wait, wait, wait, wait. So just so cause I for those that are conceiving, you're talking about a note this size. Six hundred and eighty. A posted note, which has got what is it? It's
Lucky (34:01)
Yes. Post it note, yep.
Biff (34:04)
gonna be something crazy. It's gonna like thousands, but and is it do you th is it on a single side, Lucky, or two sides? 'cause that would be double. Okay. So
Lucky (34:11)
I think it's on one side. I the picture that I saw
was one side. How many how many you think she could write?
Biff (34:15)
You said
six eighty? Yeah, it's gonna be like fourteen thousand. It's gonna be something stupid. I'm gonna say twelve hundred.
Lucky (34:23)
Wow. So her goal was to make sure they were legible. she wrote she set the world record 150 words on a sticky note. Exactly.
Biff (34:31)
okay. Wow. You don't think you
could write 150 words on a secret I'm gonna do it tonight. But how many I mean, could you just write fifty three letter words? they're words, not letters. Right? So
Lucky (34:42)
Words. Yeah. Words.
Biff (34:44)
the word could be I am I yeah, cat. Yeah. Right? Right. Of course
Lucky (34:47)
Yeah. They were mostly three letter words in the one fifty.
Biff (34:51)
she's writing a farce. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. Was it in English? I would imagine. You know, I
Lucky (34:56)
Yes, it was in English.
Biff (34:57)
wrote an er erotic book
on on on sticky notes and I sent it to the publisher and then he really enjoyed it. He sent it back in hard copy.
No stupid. That is so I d I just I enjoyed it because you you had such high hopes for that. I did. It's so funny in my head. These are f every joke I've done tonight is is like worthy of its own HBO special in my head. And they're awful. I'm way off tonight. I want to apologize. I'm way off tonight. All right.
Lucky (35:32)
I know I think you're odd. You sound pretty good to me.
Biff (35:35)
So I
Okay, so this should be our homework assignment. W no Right? So no, we can do it. Right. And and it's gotta be th I think it's gotta be do you allow one, two, and three letter words? I need a really sharp pen. Okay.
Lucky (35:48)
You can
write as any number, letter, word. It can be one
Biff (35:51)
Why wouldn't I just write
A and but over and over it's gotta be different words. It's gotta be different words. Yeah.
Lucky (35:56)
Yes.
Biff (35:57)
So see how many you can write on a post-it note. You know, in English isn't my strong suit. I'm gonna have sixteen words. You can s you even know three letter words. I know, but I'll run out after cat, bat, and mat. Maybe that yeah.
Lucky (36:09)
Cot contact at lastsmartly dot com. We'd love to hear how many
if anybody can get anywhere close to a hundred and fifty.
Biff (36:16)
And that's a challenge. And if they could I gotta think about it, how could they get us that? If they if they for those that know us, send us a picture of it. You gotta realize it's a world record. There's no way any of them any of us are getting close. I think you should start by writing a hundred and fifty words. Okay. I can write a hundred and fifty words. And then try to squeeze them onto that. Okay. And they have to be legible. They have to be legible. I th I think like
I I think I can get to a hundred. Well then do one hundred and fifty one instead of shot. I think I can get to a hundred words. No, you gotta do one hundred and fifty one.
Lucky (36:48)
The f don't write
no, the next thing you do, you write a hundred and fifty words on there. You're d you're gonna go big time on us, you're gonna leave the show, it's gonna be just Mr. Funn and I try to carry the weight. What are we gonna do? So don't break the record.
Biff (36:56)
I'm gonna get into records.
Okay. We're not gonna break records.
Lucky (37:05)
Go to one hundred forty nine and call it a day.
Biff (37:07)
but again send me a hard copy. so again, contact lastmarley.com for anybody that feels they can get over a hundred words onto a post it now. Yes. So do that. speaking of breaking things, yeah. Another segue. What do you You know, LinkedIn has a policy where you're not allowed to use it to solicit dating.
Right. But what's happened is that people are tired of the dating websites. So they're sending direct messages to people once they see their profiles because they're accurate. Right? Because you can't you're trying to a lot of LinkedIn to a lot of business network. It's probably got your most accurate information. So they will send a say a note to somebody to say, Hey, I see you're in New York City. Would you like to go have a drink? It's like the opposite of every other dating site. It's like
Beautiful women probably send notes to like nerdy IT guys and those guys ignore them. Right. Yeah. Right. It's the opposite of what the real w what LinkedIn has a quote unquote policy that says that you're not supposed to use it to solicit other, you know, for dates. Just do interviews. But it's it's it's worked. So people have have
Lucky (38:14)
Well,
Biff (38:15)
have matched up.
Lucky (38:16)
yeah, l LinkedIn is the biggest self promotion vehicle out there today. And, you
Biff (38:22)
Right.
Lucky (38:23)
know, if you want to promote yourself, and I mean, I think that, you know, versus like in in some of the dating sites, sort of hard to promote yourself. You got your static profile. But I mean, the fact that you can post every other day about your meaningless career my milestone that you had a great meeting with a custom you know what I mean? It just I LinkedIn has gone so
I think so sideways in terms of what it really was intended to do. And the fact that it's now a dating site it gives you know, I don't know. It's it I
Biff (38:52)
Because you could do
like like daily newsletters and stuff. Like it's it's a it's a lot now, right? Yeah.
Lucky (38:59)
But what
I when I was when I was in the workforce, put aside my career as a podcaster slash radio host, when I saw my employees
Biff (39:06)
Right.
Lucky (39:09)
posting three and four times a day, I'm like, what the hell are they doing? Are they not working? You
Biff (39:14)
Right.
Lucky (39:15)
know, but now that's sort of common, you know, which I don't I d I don't get. So
Biff (39:17)
Yeah. There
was this guy I remember on LinkedIn, he was like, Don't ever be a slave to your job. I think his name was Abraham LinkedIn.
Again, beautiful in my head. Beautiful. Full is your prize winning. In my head. In my head. Abraham LinkedIn. It's it's it's again. It's it's very topical, which is it it's it's yeah it's at least it's with the story. I'm surprised you haven't told us a joke about the cocaine again, which was three stories ago. I got it. I was gonna say, when's it gonna snow in Penn State? There was something coming out of me, but I just decided to let it go.
Lucky (39:53)
Okay, I saw this story that was that was sort of mind-boggling. Okay, Harvard Medical School, okay, one of the most renowned medical schools in the world. basically had a f they agreed to a $53 million settlement to resolve multiple civil class action lawsuits. they were claim they basically found guilty of severe negligence after its former morgue manager spent four years stealing and trafficking.
Human body parts from donated cadavers. Okay. From from 2018 to 2022, this guy, his name was Cedric Lodge, used his 28-year career as the manager of the of the morgue to basically basically sell these parts, dissected heads, faces, brains and hearts, skins and bone, organs and hands. And and basically, I'm thinking
Who is buying this stuff? Number one. Like you can see that if there's a angle and he's an enterprising person he and there's you know somebody to pay for these things, I can see what why he was doing what he was doing. But
Biff (41:03)
So
is it your sense these were not these are not transplantable, meaning it's not a an organ that could go into a a living body. These are
Lucky (41:13)
No.
Biff (41:13)
these are long past that point. So he's selling yeah, what I mean, what
Lucky (41:16)
No, yeah, I don't I don't fix it.
Biff (41:19)
who would buy stuff? I when I first heard this, I was shocked and because I was taken aback. You're taken aback?
Lucky (41:27)
So y taken aback.
Biff (41:30)
I I I can't I'm like taking aback 'cause it's a body
Lucky (41:34)
So you
Biff (41:35)
part. It's a body part. You're back. I was taking one. I I got it. Okay. I got it. I'm just like, wow, that is a r that's a reach. Okay. Yes.
Lucky (41:44)
So Beth, you asked who's buying these parts. So here here
are the three categories of people where these parts were moving to. he would allow online buyers to physically enter the Harvard Medical Medical School morgue to handpick the body parts they wanted to purchase. So some dude would roll out with a face or a a heart or lungs or whatever. Yep.
Biff (42:05)
A back. A back.
Lucky (42:07)
his the so the the guy who got convicted, he and his wife would ship them out to people.
package them up in their Pennsylvania house or in their in their house and sending sending them across state lines. Mostly people
Biff (42:20)
They would type
what body part they wanted? Yeah. If you couldn't
Lucky (42:23)
Yeah, people would sell Yeah, he would sell
Biff (42:25)
if you couldn't spell it, could you buy a bowel? Okay. So that's
Lucky (42:30)
Buy a bow, pretty good. This one, wait a minute.
This this retail sales. Some buyers, such as Katrina McLean, stored and sold the human remains directly out of a commercial oddity shop. It was named Cat's Creepy Creations in Salem, Massachusetts. She would just buy the stuff from the morgue and sell it in her store, which
Biff (42:53)
Have you
have you ever been to a store where you've seen a human body part, say in formaldehyde or anything like that? Let me think. No, I mean maybe you've seen like an an an old Where we shopping. An insect or an i no, but I'm just so this is in sale and where the witch trials are. So I'm I'm sure that plays into that whole thing. But I'm just wondering where you like if somebody's I saw it at Bath and Body Works. There were some parts. Bath and Body Works. That's good. That's good.
You're very good. You're creative. Thank you. You're on a roll. I just find it that I was part of me was saying not a body part of me. Right. Part of me. Was was thinking, well would would students need it if they were medical students, right? And they need to learn how to stitch up something. Yeah, yeah. If they got a body part. But that I that's what the cadavers are for, right?
Lucky (43:43)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So he would
he he was selling that that inventory of things that students would use. I guess he wasn't selling so much that people were like, you know, the students who were studying how to dissect hearts, there were there were enough hearts to go around. So but the the guy eventually got caught.
Biff (44:01)
Giving him a hand. A foot up. A leg up. A leg up, not a foot up. A leg up. There we go.
Lucky (44:06)
It's split up.
Biff (44:07)
you're so dumb. All right. So on a related note, so I I a provocative question. Okay. And I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna say it to you guys again because I tried to explain it before the show and you were struggling with it. I'm r I will admit very confused. Ricky Gervais. So you have you have two options. Right. You've got to do the first action or the second action.
The first action is would you trade your toes and your fingers, right? For each other. Or the other choice is would you trade your testicles for your nipples? Which choice one or the other. One or the other. Which one would you do and why? Okay.
Lucky (44:50)
So
it might this is pretty easy for me. I'm switching fingers and toes. I don't want my balls hanging from my boobs.
Right?
Biff (45:01)
Yeah. Initially I would agree with you, but
Wouldn't mind my balls being a little bit easier to access. Why? What are you gonna do with your balls? So when you fall
Lucky (45:13)
Like this you you would you wouldn't even be scratched for?
Biff (45:15)
