Biff (00:10)
Hello everybody, welcome to Laugh Smartly. You know, I'm gonna start quickly. We're looking at somebody that left us last week. Lucky is back from
Lucky (00:18)
My office
was not in the way that I left it. I'm gonna have to have a conversation with co my co workers. somebody was sitting in my chair f last week and all the pap
Biff (00:29)
Slab,
you in particular, he he moved things around. He was like Goldilocks and the three bears, right?
Lucky (00:33)
Yeah. And he did not leave my office in the
way that I left it before I w departed for Europe. But I'm glad to be back with you guys. I missed you. I thought about you a lot. I sent you some pictures, sign the life pictures, so just to make sure that my my seat was gonna be available when I came back. So
Biff (00:51)
Well,
we are we are glad to have you back and we were really happy that Slab was able to to fill in last week and for the time that that you were away. So again, thank you, Slab, for doing that.
Mr Fun (01:01)
Wait,
we haven't talked about this, but you pocket dialed me from places in Europe three times. Do you know that?
Lucky (01:07)
Well, the leaderhosen is is very it's a very viscous pocket. It's like a leather pocket.
Biff (01:12)
Ha ha
Lucky (01:13)
So when I'm putting my phone in and out, it it would do weird things. I called my mom a couple of times too. So
Mr Fun (01:19)
I thought you were
Biff (01:19)
That's
Mr Fun (01:19)
like singing or something 'cause like my my text message, you know, the translation was like ooh ooh grunt ooh. It was so funny. Yeah.
Biff (01:28)
That is so
Lucky (01:26)
Okay.
Biff (01:29)
funny. Speaking of funny, Mr. Fun, got one to
Mr Fun (01:32)
Yeah.
Biff (01:32)
lead us off with?
Mr Fun (01:33)
Yeah, I might start my next stand up with it with this. Tell me if it's funny or not. I'm gonna go, Hey, I'm really excited about being here today. I wanted to get pumped up before I started, so I mixed my Adderall with Red Bull. I got halfway around the beltway before I realized I forgot my car.
It's funny.
Biff (01:48)
I d I I and I will say this, Mr. Fun, it's similar to something you said last week. You're working on the joke. You are workshopping that joke in real time on this show. Yeah. No, that's all right.
Mr Fun (01:57)
really? damn that I repeated it. Well how about this? I
mean is this I stole this one. I I They
Lucky (02:03)
Was it was it funnier wait a minute, was it funnier this time or the last time, Beth?
Mr Fun (02:07)
laughed.
Biff (02:07)
no, they're
they they it's different context. It was
Lucky (02:10)
okay.
Mr Fun (02:10)
Really?
Biff (02:11)
it was good last time, but he's workshopping it. I like that. Yeah.
Mr Fun (02:14)
Really? Okay. How about
this? When I was in New York, I ran into this Chinese guy who was cooking while he was hiking. He was walking and he said, Hey, I'm walking here. Hey, No. All right, those are both bad. Those aren't getting in the show.
Biff (02:25)
Walk, walk. Well W that's good. No, no, it's good.
This is again this is it's part of the process. I I I did as I just shared with you guys a few moments ago, I just hooked it up. We've this is our a hundred and ninety-seventh episode. So we you know, we we we start different ways sometimes. Mr. Funn. So we do appreciate that. So and
Mr Fun (02:49)
All right.
Biff (02:51)
and
All
these 197 episodes, I'm gonna put a plug in for Scotty's vodka. Again, those on YouTube can see Lucky has a Scotty's hat on. But I went to me and Mrs. Biff went to Country's Calling this last weekend in in Ocean City. And it was Friday night, which we did not go to. The weather was great. Saturday, it was rainy and misty and all this other stuff. so we waited out some of the rain at a bar called Angler OC, which is down by MR Ducks. It's on Talbot Street. We park, we park down there. go in there and we're we're waiting out some of the rain. Look up.
Scotty's vodka at the bar. so I texted Scotty. He said, Yeah, we do a great business there, especially the little miniatures. Because I he goes, it's next door. So I walk over next door and there's a like where they're showing selling t-shirts and stuff like that. There's a whole display rack with every miniature you can think of. You know, whether it's fireball, you know, whether it's a rum, you know, you Jack Daniels, there are little miniatures, and the Scotties were sold out.
They had done a good job there sewing through the Scotties at Angler O. C. So doing a great job down there. And had a great time at Country's Calling. the music was great. it was rainy and chilly, but you would have never known it by looking at the dress of many of the young ladies. You would have thought apparently it was eighty-five degrees out the way they were dressed. It was freezing. And I it was not dresses,
Mr Fun (04:07)
You were looking at their dresses or the way they were dressed?
Biff (04:10)
it was they they they were the
They wear a lot of the jeans shorts, cowboy boots, and you know, some top of some form. And you're like, it's freezing outs Yeah. They it's it's
Lucky (04:16)
The ho The hula hoops they were wearing around their waists.
Biff (04:21)
they're like the Daisy Dukes, right? The the shorts that we talked about before. I it's just like, what are they not they're just ignoring the forecast? They they have different blood. I mean, I just don't get it. They had to be freezing. I mean, it's
Mr Fun (04:33)
What were you wearing?
Biff (04:35)
I was wearing I what I had jeans and a and a and a
a rain jacket on because it was raining. I actually
Mr Fun (04:41)
Yeah.
Biff (04:42)
put my golf rain pants on.
Mr Fun (04:44)
Nice.
Biff (04:45)
Yeah, that to wear to a country concert. I get that's a little weird, but I was dry. I was not gonna get
Mr Fun (04:50)
Over your genes.
Biff (04:51)
wore them over my jeans. So it was
Lucky (04:53)
But here's the thing.
Here's the thing. young men today get to benefit from s watching young ladies dress like that versus
Biff (05:02)
Yes.
Lucky (05:03)
no offense to the ladies of our era, but the ladies of our era would be dressed in like baggy pants and sweatpants and big sweatshirts and turtlenecks. Yeah. So I mean
Biff (05:10)
And turtlenecks and stuff like that, right? Yeah. That's that's true. And
Mr Fun (05:14)
I don't know.
I I think it's very confusing. Honestly, like I I I see these girls and I hang, you know, when I'm with like my son or whatever, and they have to be like on their best, best behavior. And I get it. I get it. And I'm gonna get myself in trouble, you know, the more I talk here. But I almost feel bad for them. Like, at least, you know, when I checked out a girl in loose-fitting leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, I was good.
I was good. Now these girls are out and you gotta pretend you're not even noticing. You have
Biff (05:44)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (05:45)
to pretend you're not even and if you say anything, you're you're a pig. It's so
confusing. It's so confusing. Right?
Biff (05:49)
Yeah. So
yeah, no, I I don't disagree. We we we had that discussion with some of the visitors of ours that joined us at our tailgate, the Virginia Tech game three weeks ago, I guess it was now. And and some of the the undergrads that walk in, you're like, you you had to look up into the sky. They
Mr Fun (06:10)
Yeah.
Biff (06:10)
were they were so they were dressed so well to your point, what your son deals with, you it's like you were you're wearing that out in public?
I mean it's crazy. You know, what what some of they do.
Mr Fun (06:19)
I mean and it and it's a double
standard. Like when Biff, when you used to walk around in a thong and girls looked at you, were you upset with them? Or is that was it
Biff (06:26)
Hold the thought on the thong.
You know, I'm not going to go down the thong hole right at the moment. Pardon the pun and pardon the expression. We'll we'll have a well well, why don't we do that segue? So, Lucky, you shared with us a few weeks ago, right before you went on your trip, that you went to Clemson for parents' weekend and you had an issue with Airbnb. Just you gotta just quick recap on the Airbnb story, but then you gotta read verbatim what was posted. So go ahead.
Lucky (06:51)
We'll do. Okay.
So went down for Clemson Parents Weekend. It was a game day as well. And we had a tailgate with my daughter's friends and and and their parents, probably a total of like 35 people out in the driveway of the of the house. Yeah, I get back from the trip, I get a note from Clemson. I'm sorry, with from Airbnb customer support slash security. Hey, some there's been some complaint. They interviewed me.
And said, Hey, there was a complaint, you know, do tell me what happened. I'm like, well, we had people, 35 people, pretty calm. We were there until 11 a.m. and they went to the game and they said everything was fine. Okay. So I get back. I traveled the last week, but I got back and I got a review. The owner of the house reviewed me
Biff (07:38)
Okay.
Lucky (07:39)
after our stay. Here's what they said verbatim. what what never what we have never written a review like this ever.
What happened to be a very nice doctor from Maryland and his family, who told me it would be just six of them, husband, wife, and four kids, turned in turned our historic tutor with limit of eight guests into a party house, which we learned when the neighbors called us to complain after reporting no less than 50 college kids at the house. Size XXL
Double, double extra small thong panty left in the sheets of the master bedroom, which is interesting, giving the parents are both very tall, and the two of their children who arrived with them were also very tall, and weight and weight proportionate. No extra, extra smalls or even smalls in that family. Game was reined out, and yet no less than two dozen of them.
Travis
back to the house, muddy shoes and all, garbage cans filled to the brim, floor completely trashed and every towel in the house was in the laundry.
Biff (08:46)
So we ra well I'll you go first,
Mr Fun (08:46)
What what is accurate? What
Biff (08:48)
Mr. Vaughn.
Mr Fun (08:49)
yeah, well first of all what w I I'll I'll I I'll qu question the witness. What was accurate about that review?
Lucky (08:56)
Trash was in the we filled the trash in the trash can.
Mr Fun (08:58)
Right. Right.
Lucky (09:00)
the dirty towels were in the laundry.
Biff (09:03)
Okay.
Lucky (09:04)
pretty much everything else was not accurate.
Mr Fun (09:07)
Did you present yourself as a group of six but had thirty five visitors, you suggested?
Lucky (09:13)
I I told the at when we checked in, the owner of the house was there to give us a tour of the house.
Mr Fun (09:18)
Yes.
Lucky (09:19)
she said on Saturday, the gardener's coming. I said, we're having people over for before the game. I'd prefer the gardener not show up. We're gonna have a tailgate out in the front yard. She said, Okay. No, no question.
Mr Fun (09:29)
Got it. Was
Biff (09:30)
Okay. And
Mr Fun (09:31)
was Yeah. That was my next question.
Biff (09:32)
and when did you let me ask you, when did you go to medical school?
Lucky (09:36)
Exactly. And
and w like I'm five nine. I'm not a doctor. you know, my kids are
Biff (09:44)
At all.
Lucky (09:45)
taller than I am, but and no one that I know of wears an extra, extra small. I have some very slender daughters, but but anyway, yeah.
Biff (09:52)
But
Mr Fun (09:53)
And y but who slept in the master bedroom?
Lucky (09:56)
Mrs. Lucky and I did. So yeah.
Mr Fun (09:58)
Okay.
Biff (09:59)
so your
thong, I pictured you as a large in a thong, Lucky. You you're you're you you really like to wear a tight thong.
Lucky (10:05)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So
I I and here's the here's the kicker. I I attempted to go back and leave her a review to say WTF and I missed the window to leave a review and Airbnb won't open it up. So but I did leave a re I did leave a complaint about her request, I mean about her about her commentary and they are opening up a case. So because like this the salacious things about
X XX small, the ki the kids characteristics.
Biff (10:34)
Yeah.
Lucky (10:35)
That's on that that's not relevant to anything. If we booked up their house, which we didn't, I could see it. But anyway,
Mr Fun (10:41)
How's how's it work? Like, is your name recorded? Like don't rent to these people or no?
Lucky (10:46)
Yeah, I mean conceivably the next time I'm trying to book an Airbnb, somebody wants to look at reviews on me to make sure I'm not a scumbag and, you know, booger up everybody's houses, they could conceivably not rent to us. So
Mr Fun (10:58)
What if you just go
with doctor next time and don't give me your name? Just be like doctor. Yeah. That's that's crazy.
Lucky (11:01)
Yeah, I don't know. Yeah. So s
Biff (11:04)
Doctor Lucky. They're good.
So that's that's funny.
Lucky (11:06)
so anyway,
I'm in a I have a campaign to disparage anybody in Clemson who wants to rent that house. So I'll keep you posted on that. No, I mean it was
Biff (11:14)
At least you don't hold a grudge. That's funny.
Lucky (11:18)
ridiculous.
Biff (11:18)
So anyways. So I have a you know, on a similar not similar follow-up, but on a follow-up to something that happened to me a month or so ago, whatever it was. Remember the story about the dog, which is the dog that ran into the skunk that then I rescued that one evening. we we we sent it to the the shelter. I reported back that the
Shelter,
the dog was no longer there, which I was happy about because I would have had a second dog. But me and Mrs. Biff are walking our dog Murphy three days ago. And I look over, I go, that looks like the dog that we rescued. This is a, you know, in a neighborhood behind us. And I go, that looks like the dog. I called the dog Spot. I go, that looks like Spot. So we walk up and we find out it's the dog. And it had run from a house in the neighborhood behind us. We find out it's the.
It was the owner of a dog, his name was Clay. it was his dad was watching the dog, and the dog ran from his dad. we we did find I we shared with him that the dog was that had hit a skunk or a skunk had had zapped him with the the smelling stuff. He goes, I wasn't aware of that. He goes, they they he goes, I didn't notice his face was red from whatever, picking him up the shelter. I go, yeah, but he he had gotten hit by a skunk. And then we find out his name is Zeus. Not quite spot,
Lucky (12:31)
You know.
Biff (12:32)
but Zeus.
And the dog was still friendly one, you know, kind of came up to us, but it was that's a it's the happy ending story to that. and and I have to formally apologize to Mrs. Biff, who wouldn't allow me to give it away to the one woman that called. They there there was one woman, she goes, It just doesn't feel right. I was like, They're asking for a pit bull. Give her the pit bull. And lo and behold, it wasn't her pit bull. So I yes.
Lucky (12:57)
Pet people have intuition. They
Mr Fun (13:00)
yeah.
Lucky (13:00)
have
the weird pet intuition. And you I guess Miss Biff had it. Don't because that wasn't the owner, right? That woman wasn't the owner.
Biff (13:02)
Yeah. So Yeah. That was
she was not the owner nor was she related to the owner as best we could tell. So but the
Mr Fun (13:10)
And people who own
skunks have a great sense. They have a great sense. Hey, so do you know
Biff (13:12)
They Yes, very good. Very good.
Lucky (13:12)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (13:15)
that speaking of Zeus, do you know Zeus Zeus when he made fries, they tasted old because he used ancient Greece?
Lucky (13:24)
Ancient Greece. Okay.
Biff (13:25)
Jesus Christ. That's very good.
Mr Fun (13:26)
So hard.
So hard to come up with these things.
Biff (13:27)
That's yeah,
you're you're that's good. You know, I it it's it that that that's really good. So and then
Mr Fun (13:32)
Yeah.
Biff (13:33)
I you know you guys have made fun of me in the past about I had a an an iPhone. I I will show you my new iPhone for anybody that sees it on YouTube.
Lucky (13:40)
Whoa, it's so big.
Biff (13:41)
it's so big, right? So I had
Mr Fun (13:43)
Right.
Biff (13:43)
an iPhone previously, it was a mini iPhone, and I was I was ridiculed for years and years and years about this iPhone because it was an iPhone 13, but I liked it, I could put it into my pocket, blah, blah, blah.
It died last week. So I I had to get rid of the iPhone. When a tear was brought to my eye when I had to turn that iPhone in. but that's not the point of my story. My point of the story is to bitch about Verizon. Verizon you go in when's the last time either of you gone in to get a phone at Verizon or a T-Mobile or some store like that?
Mr Fun (14:10)
Never.
Lucky (14:11)
I have
a s fa I have a family of five. Someone is
either losing their phone or breaking their phone at least once a year.
Biff (14:13)
Yeah. Right. What's if
if you could say what is one thing you cannot find in a Verizon store or or a phone store? I'll give
Lucky (14:24)
Mm.
Biff (14:24)
you the answer. There's not a price on anything.
Lucky (14:27)
yeah.
Biff (14:27)
And you don't know if you're getting taken to the cleaners. You don't know what. They're talking about credits, they're throwing numbers at you. You're getting, you know, because your free upgrade, which we've reported on the past, doesn't mean anything. But
Your upgrade's gonna cost it's a $900 phone. It's gonna be spread out over 36 months, blah, blah, blah. You're like, you believe them because you have no idea how much the phone is. You just don't know unless you're gonna try to shop it on Amazon while you're sitting in there. The other one is they said, and you're also eligible for $100 worth of store credit to use on accessories. And but you don't know what anything costs because there's no price on there. So they kind of rattle off three things that probably are worth 40 bucks, right? Like,
It's a hundred bucks. I'm like, I don't know if it's a hundred dollars. It just I just felt like, you know, like I got taken advantage of at the Verizon store because there's not a price
Lucky (15:18)
Though
Biff (15:19)
on anything.
Lucky (15:19)
those of us that have had to get new phones,
Biff (15:22)
Yeah.
Lucky (15:22)
a lot of times they give you v like s something for your trade in. But
Biff (15:26)
Right, right.
Lucky (15:27)
that little phone that you've been carrying, I bet you had zero trade in value. okay.
Biff (15:29)
Yeah. I got a hundred bucks. Again,
Mr Fun (15:32)
Nice.
Biff (15:33)
it could be monopoly money though, you know, because it's like you got to pay something for the transfer tax effective. I felt like it was doing a real estate deal. And then they said, but we're giving you a hundred dollars for your phone. So when your bill comes, you're gonna have this plus minus pay for these things, credit back, and it's only gonna go up four dollars a month. I'm like, I don't know if I believe that. I just don't believe any of it because you just don't know. You know, it's a
Mr Fun (15:55)
My wife my
wife got a new iPhone for me and she thought that was a pretty good trade.
Biff (16:01)
Ha ha
Lucky (16:02)
Mm-hmm.
Mr Fun (16:02)
Hey,
what do you call somebody who sees somebody steal an iPhone?
The eyewitness. The eyewitness. Sorry. Sorry.
Lucky (16:09)
Mm, good one.
Biff (16:10)
look at you. Look at you. That's good, so
Lucky (16:13)
Good one.
Mr Fun (16:13)
None of them can be winners. I sometimes say
Biff (16:14)
Anyways what
Mr Fun (16:15)
they can't all be winners. Tonight none of them will be winners. None of them will be. Inside.
Biff (16:17)
No, no, they are. People are laughing. People are laughing inside, Mr. Fud.
Lucky (16:18)
No, those are great.
Biff (16:22)
You'll you'll feel everybody that's you know driving around listening to the show, mowing
Mr Fun (16:25)
Yeah.
Biff (16:25)
their yard, doing something like that, they'll be they'll be they'll be chuckling inside for all your jokes.
Mr Fun (16:29)
Yes, the eyewitness.
Biff (16:31)
I forgot to mention one of our partners, tackleupbb uh.com, tackle up Bethany Beach, Mr. Funn and I are supporting some merchandise. But importantly, go to their website, tackleupbb.com. 15% off by going to laugh typing in laugh15.
As I said last week, it's getting to be close to the holiday season, believe it or not. for gifts, you can get anything, sweatshirts, you can get performance fishing wear, you can get T shirts, you can get hoodies, you can get hats, you can get all sorts of stuff. It's not just UPF rated shirts. It's there's there's other things that are kind of gifty, if you will. so
please do that.
Mr Fun (17:03)
I wore my performance
shirt last this isn't a joke. I went on my performance shirt for the last time for last week for the first time. But I I I really wasn't sure what I was supposed to perform. Like I didn't really get why it's a performance shirt. Like I started kind of dancing, stuff like that. I didn't know why it was a performance shirt.
Biff (17:20)
Yeah, that I
believe it's for probably breathability and sun protection, Mr. Vunn. So
Lucky (17:27)
Yep.
Biff (17:28)
when you're when you're out there reeling the big fish in,
Mr Fun (17:30)
Okay.
Biff (17:31)
it it's it's good for you when you're when you're really struggling and working hard. So the sweat wicks off your body.
Mr Fun (17:38)
I read the tag. I read that I was wearing a performance shirt. So I did like a little spin and then like a pirouette. Yeah.
Biff (17:40)
See? You did improvisation, something like that. It it's it's how you do. So what's
going on in the world, Lucky?
Lucky (17:50)
Well, I thought I'd give you guys a little recap of my my trip to Europe last week.
Biff (17:55)
huh.
Lucky (17:56)
I again I was I missed last week. So again, thank you to Slab for filling in for w for me. so we ha I had this amazing trip. So I'll give you the I have like six little vignettes of of the trip. Okay. First off, have you ever had a vacation where the airline says, Hey, your flight's been canceled? And you're like, crap.
What am I gonna do? You assume it's gonna be canceled and scheduled for the day after, you know, and how you know you're gonna miss a day of vacation. In my example, my flight got canceled. Hey, you get to leave a day early.
Biff (18:28)
I I to your question, I have never heard of that. And when it happened, because that was around the time of the Nor'easter. So they either were predicting the plane wasn't going to get back from Amsterdam, right? That's where you were flying to,
Lucky (18:40)
Yeah.
Biff (18:40)
must be the same plane. I just I had never heard of that. I really hadn't. It was an interesting thing. Well, good for you though.
Lucky (18:43)
Yeah. So that
that was the start of it because I got a bonus day on the vac on the vacation. So we f I I flew into Krakow, Poland. Okay. So the first night I'm there, I'm attempting to take the subway into the old town section. It's like a five-minute subway. So I'm up fumbling with the the machine to give the ticket. And you know, it's in Polish, you know, and I can't figure out how to get it to you to read in English. So I'm struggling, struggling, struggling.
This old guy comes up to me and goes, Hey, did you know if you're over 70, you don't have to buy a ticket?
And I was like, okay, I couldn't know. And then I said, what? You think I'm over look over like I'm over 70? And that that guy was over 70. And he didn't
Biff (19:21)
Yeah.
Lucky (19:26)
even crack a smile. It wasn't a joke. And so I was pissed for the next 20 minutes. I was like, I was gonna try to track that kid. I yeah. I'm like, you gotta be kidding me. Anyway, so
Biff (19:30)
That's funny.
Mr Fun (19:33)
Wow.
Lucky (19:37)
so two days later, after exploring Krakow, we went to Auschwitz, which was one of the highlights of my of the trip. If anybody, if you've if you haven't been there, it's a must see.
But we it's about an hour and 15 minute drive from Krack Al to Auschwitz and we had an 830 tour. The interesting thing was we can we put the address in and we're driving and we're we're supposed there at 815 for an 830 tour. We pull into the parking lot, there's not a soul there. We're at to Auschwitz, we see the camp and we're like, what what's going on here?
This Polish guard comes out of the guard house and he ventured he was like, Go fift five meters, five meters. We were at the second part of the tour early, and it was the most surreal thing, though, because for like 15 minutes we were like, What happened? Did we do something wrong? Did they cancel all the tours? but we enter ended up getting VIP treatment into the first part of Auschwitz where our tour started, where everybody was gathering and got an amazing tour. We had a local
Person from Auschwitz giving the tour. She was amazing. from there, we ventured to Prague and then we went from Prague to Ingolstadt, which is in Germany. we had a great time exploring Ingolstadt, which is where Audi's from, which was pretty neat. I was driving on the Audubon. I I I'm not a fast driver, and driving fast is totally not fun. I mean, I did not enjoy going above 85, and that's like going slow on the Audubon.
Mr Fun (21:06)
Wow.
Lucky (21:07)
and then last but not least
Biff (21:07)
Have you ever driven on the Audubon,
Mr. Fun? You ever driven on it? It is a
Mr Fun (21:09)
No, no. I've never been I've
Biff (21:11)
it is an experience you gotta do once because you you think you're going fast if you're going over a hundred, then somebody will be on you like and they flash. They they they really flash at you and they are they're pissed. I mean, they're like royally pissed at you. You gotta get over. They go by at 150. It's it's crazy.
Mr Fun (21:26)
Is are there
a terrible accidents on the Autobahn or n everybody knows how to drive?
Biff (21:30)
They're safe
drivers. I mean the Europeans are really safe drivers, especially the Germans. Yeah.
Mr Fun (21:33)
Really?
Lucky (21:33)
They follow the rules. You know, you
nobody drives in the fast lane. They use it to pass most of the time. but which was interesting. But the let the
Mr Fun (21:41)
What was it like
to check out Prague?
Lucky (21:43)
Prague's good. Prague was good. Check out.
Mr Fun (21:44)
Okay. So many, so
Biff (21:44)
Check it. Yeah, see I can
Mr Fun (21:47)
many terrible Auschwitz jokes.
Lucky (21:49)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (21:50)
I mean,
Biff (21:50)
ask.
Mr Fun (21:51)
are they are the only people who got a VIP tour of Auschwitz. Like they're the only people in the world who've ever said that.
Lucky (21:55)
Yep. Yep.
Biff (21:55)
To get into Auschwitz.
Lucky (21:58)
Yep. the last but not least, Munich, which is where Oktoberfest is held. they set a record this Oktoberfest, 7.4 million visitors, 6.7 million liters of beer in just 16 days. I and we were there on the last night of Oktoberfest. I felt like the the Berlin Wolf came down and everybody was hugging and celebrating. and it was just an amazing event. So
Mr Fun (22:23)
Do have do they
really have those girls that can carry like a hundred things? Yeah? Wow. That's fine.
Lucky (22:26)
yeah. yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Biff (22:28)
And and do you
like so y you're US we would tip like crazy if somebody was serving like that. Is that in their DNA in the in the beer hall? No, but you did
Lucky (22:37)
Yeah, we tipped we tipped. We tipped.
Biff (22:39)
you see the j if there were Germans there? Obviously there's a lot of foreigners there because it's a thing to do. Did you see do you think others were tipping?
Lucky (22:46)
It seemed like it was normal to tip.
Biff (22:48)
Okay.
Lucky (22:49)
and and you would pay per drink. You know, you would as you go. You don't pay you don't have a tab all night kind of thing. So
Mr Fun (22:53)
What's look
like? There you or is is it like I see on videos that it's just a a day of drinking? It's a all day dancing, drinking.
Lucky (23:01)
Yeah. Ten music dancing. Music dancing.
Biff (23:04)
Do do they
sing anything but English songs? 'Cause I saw something with like sweet okay, like sweet Caroline and some other stuff like that. okay.
Lucky (23:07)
No, no, they have German songs. Yeah. Yeah, a lot of US songs, but a lot of foreign
songs. So
Mr Fun (23:14)
Did you hear about
the the German that went up to the Polish border and the guard said asked him occupation? And he said, No, this time I'm just visiting.
Lucky (23:23)
jeez.
Biff (23:23)
God.
Jeez, please. Now look okay, serious question and we'll get out on this one. Look, would you do it again, Mr Octoberfest?
Lucky (23:31)
I would this group goes every two years. I definitely would be welcome a a year off. I'm like at the point where I'm saying no, but I'm as it probably gets closer to two years, I would say yes.
Mr Fun (23:41)
Wait, what's the reason it was just exhausting? Or are you getting too old to to t do that kind of thing right now? Yeah, he's seventy years
Biff (23:46)
I mean he's seventy. I mean what do you expect?
Lucky (23:48)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (23:49)
old. Or no, he's actually so much younger, but he looks 70.
Lucky (23:53)
Yeah.
Lucky (23:54)
Okay, so when we were driving on the Audubon, we had stopped at some of the craziest convenience stores, nothing that we recognize, of course. And
Biff (24:01)
Mm-hmm.
Lucky (24:02)
those were adventures in and of themselves. But when I got back and I was f trying to prepare for today, I saw that there was a they just released a a a a survey of America has a new favorite convenience store. So do you
Biff (24:17)
Okay.
Lucky (24:17)
historically know what the favorite convenience store was at the top of the list? Historically, what would you accept?
Biff (24:22)
What like
recent history or history history?
Lucky (24:24)
Re recent history.
Biff (24:25)
it you you gotta think Wawa's up there because it's cult following.
Mr Fun (24:30)
I would have guessed seven eleven.
Biff (24:32)
Seven Eleven would probably be in the top five, but I'm not sure they anybody would say it's the best anymore. Sheets are very good, which is in Pennsylvania. There's probably ones in the Midwest that we're not familiar with.
Lucky (24:42)
Yeah.
Biff (24:44)
I I have been to Bucky's, which I think are, you know, pretty incredible. So but who's who's number one?
Mr Fun (24:50)
I think the
question was which is the best? Which is the best? The question was which is the best, right?
Lucky (24:50)
Bucky, Bucky, what's that? But Bucky's
has traditionally been at the top of the list for all the convenience store ratings. And I'll tell yeah, I
Mr Fun (24:57)
Really? I've never been to a Buckeyes. Never been.
Lucky (25:01)
I have another. But I I'll explain to you what what they use for the rankings. But Bucky's got unseated this year. I've never heard of this chain. Meyer, M-E-I-J-E-R. It's a grocery chain.
Biff (25:12)
Yeah.
Lucky (25:12)
Yeah, I mean they so they're they're they have five hundred stores located across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. and you know, they they're they're super big. But anyway, they got the highest rated score this year. Bucky's fell to four. Quick Trips, Sheets, and Wawa tied for second place. And then Bucky's tied with Maverick, Pilot, Racetrack, and Shell for the four for the fourth place.
but did you know what do you know what they use to evaluate convenience stores? You know what the cr
Biff (25:47)
No.
Lucky (25:48)
criteria?
Mr Fun (25:49)
No.
Lucky (25:50)
Here they are: food quality, cleanliness, store layout, merchandise variety, employee courtesy, checkout speed, store hours, and Mr. Fun, this one's for you. Coffee quality.
Mr Fun (26:04)
yeah. Yeah.
Lucky (26:05)
Which I thought was pretty pretty good.
Mr Fun (26:08)
Yeah. Do you
Biff (26:09)
Yeah, I'm looking just
so clear, I'm looking at Myers. They have like the some are grocery stores, some are look like they're convenience stores. They are in the Midwest to your point. you know, I I you know, did they did you say bathrooms? Forgive me if you didn't say that. That to me is what what a No,
Lucky (26:25)
did I say bathrooms?
Biff (26:27)
but that is one thing that I think a convenience store really needs to have is a clean bathroom. Yeah. And yeah.
Lucky (26:31)
one thousand percent. c I guess cleanliness is part of the bathroom. Hopefully it is.
Biff (26:37)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (26:38)
What about
Biff (26:38)
I've
been to I've been to several Buckeys now. I'd be hard pressed to think of a of a better convenience
store, if you want to call
Mr Fun (26:44)
Why is it so great?
Biff (26:45)
it. One, you've got there's literally, I'm not exaggerating by much. There's like 200 gas pumps, right? That's the
Mr Fun (26:52)
Okay.
Biff (26:52)
first thing. It's huge. Then you go in, they've got a whole brisket station. They've
Mr Fun (26:57)
Ooh.
Biff (26:57)
got a beef jerky deli counter that's got to be 30 feet wide. They've got everything you can imagine to buy for food and a lot of it freshly made.
You know, they got a whole barbecue thing and they, you know, they have this cold cold sort of kitsy, like when they're like, you know, brisket's up, they'll yell it out and stuff like that. And there's there's a thousand people in the buckies. The bathrooms are very clean. there's just so much. I mean, it's there's so much stuff there. And it's a great it's it's great to go to. I mean, it causes traffic jams though. It's hard to get in and out of that's one not knock because so many people go, but they are great.
Mr Fun (27:33)
Wow.
Lucky (27:34)
Well,
w one of the the so Bucky's though, because of their greatness, there's a lot of like there's a lot of backlash. there's been a couple of things. they've been all these lawsuits. Bucky sued Beaver's Minimart in Beaver Creek, Ohio, alleging
Biff (27:47)
The Yeah.
Lucky (27:49)
the convenience store's cartoon beaver logo is too similar to its own.
Biff (27:52)
Bucky, yeah.
Lucky (27:53)
Yeah. And then there's like this other Mickey's an Ohio State Ohio gas station chain. Same thing, stealing their logo. So
I mean the everybody's gone.
Biff (28:03)
Yeah, I mean that's the negative
and and and so they've made it on to the the the the press has started to focus on that that they're protecting their trademark in particular John Oliver in his show has a Bucky's knockoff logo. I forgot what it's called. I I you again could probably look it up. And so it's become the you know to pick on Bucky's is for lack of a better way, because they're they're really focused on protecting their logo, right or wrong. I'm not sure that's good or bad.
And they went after that store in Ohio, which had the beaver and and stuff like that. So they you know, they've been focused on but it I don't know. I think the experience is very good. You know, others may not think similarly. They're only in the southeast, primarily in Texas, and they're just expanding into Ohio, I think is is what it is. But I don't know. Get a chance, go to one.
Mr Fun (28:49)
So so Biff,
have you have you ever seen a beavers?
Biff (28:54)
Stop.
Mr Fun (28:55)
Sorry.
Biff (28:57)
I bet I've been to Beaver Creek, Colorado. Famous
Mr Fun (29:01)
I got it. Got it.
Biff (29:03)
known for their liquor store, Beaver Liquors. They have that, so yes, I I I'm familiar.
Mr Fun (29:06)
yeah, I love that. I love that place. I love it. It smells good.
Lucky (29:11)
All right.
When's the last time you guys got a card f a birthday card in the mail?
Mr Fun (29:16)
Ooh.
Lucky (29:17)
Do you guys still get birthday cards?
Biff (29:18)
I get it from my my my parents, primarily. Yeah, that's
Mr Fun (29:21)
Me too. My mom sends me one. She makes it herself.
Biff (29:24)
that's the rest of are just handed to you if if you see somebody. I don't get others in the mail.
Mr Fun (29:28)
I think
it's the biggest waste of money. I don't like I don't like birthday cards. I don't like any cards. And I don't like wrapping paper. And I certainly don't like a ribbon. It's just such
Biff (29:37)
Yeah. Yeah.
Mr Fun (29:39)
a waste of money.
Lucky (29:39)
Well, you live with Mrs.
Fun, who's like doesn't like paper that's not
biodegradable.
Biff (29:43)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (29:44)
That's that's the excuse
I use. That's the excuse I use. I use whatever
Biff (29:47)
Ha ha ha.
Mr Fun (29:48)
it is handed to me in the in the store and I just put I staple it. I staple it shot.
Lucky (29:54)
Well,
okay. Well, if you live to be a hundred and fourteen years old, you may appreciate getting a card. And the world's oldest and second oldest men, man, men, exchange greetings for their respective 114th and 113th birthdays by sending each other a birthday card. Which was actually pretty cool.
Biff (30:16)
Where are they located, these men?
Lucky (30:17)
The one
guy one man is in Brazil, the guy who turned 114. The the other guy who turned 113 is in Australia. they sent they sent gr birthday greetings via photos sent to one another across the globe. So I don't know, the show each other holding each other's cards. I thought
Biff (30:35)
Wow.
Lucky (30:36)
it was a cool little concept. I probably needed a number of people to help, you know, produce this event. But
Biff (30:40)
Right. Yeah.
Mr Fun (30:42)
I hope they sent
it overnight 'cause you don't wanna take too much time with the mail. You get you gotta get that there quickly just in case.
Biff (30:46)
I know. Fr from per yeah, I know, across the Pacific Ocean to get that card there.
Lucky (30:47)
Exactly.
But it that the quirkiest thing is the oldest man and the second oldest man share the same exact birthday. The day. But
Mr Fun (30:59)
Ooh, that's weird.
Biff (31:00)
The same exact day.
Lucky (31:02)
yeah, the same exact day. I mean, one w you know one year difference. But both
Biff (31:06)
And and
like lucky they can ride the subway and crakow for free.
Lucky (31:10)
They can one hundred percent do that.
Mr Fun (31:10)
I was just gonna say that. I was just gonna say that. Wow, that's interesting. That's interesting that they're
and so that's the oldest person alive, a hundred and fourteen? Right.
Lucky (31:20)
The two old they're the second and third
oldest. The oldest person is a hundred and seventeen year old woman.
Mr Fun (31:27)
Where's she?
Biff (31:28)
So they're
Lucky (31:30)
I don't know where Ethel lives. Ethel Katerman. I don't know where she lives.
Mr Fun (31:34)
Wow.
Biff (31:34)
So they
were born in nineteen thirteen, nineteen fourteen? That's the the year they were born,
right? If I do
Lucky (31:41)
Yeah, yeah.
Biff (31:42)
the do the math correctly. That's that's impressive. So they were going back to your tour of Eastern Europe and Germany, so they would they were old enough to fight in the war, World War Two, if they fought. Right? Could have. So is it is
Lucky (31:54)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Biff (31:58)
the guy in Brazil from Germany originally? I'm just kidding. No.
Lucky (32:02)
not that I know
of.
Biff (32:03)
Okay. So anyways.
Mr Fun (32:06)
Yeah.
Lucky (32:06)
Yeah. Yeah. Anyway,
I thought that was cool. It's a cool story.
Biff (32:09)
So third week in a row, surface level genius. Again, first week was poop. Lucky missed tides. I got some compliments from JK with Audio our our our our our roving correspondent out in the the Western US that he liked the the thing on tides. This week is a tried and true for me because of where I live on the Delmarva, there's still corn in the fields, right? It's brown now, which got me thinking, let's
What what happens with corn? And let's learn some facts about corn. I know how excited you guys look at me like right now to learn about corn. Let me ask you one. What?
Mr Fun (32:47)
I'm right now asleep. I'm asleep with my eyes open.
Lucky (32:47)
Yeah, I
Biff (32:50)
will you stop? It's this
Lucky (32:51)
Yeah.
Biff (32:51)
is exciting stuff. So what I did find about corn, I said I asked the question: when is corn for eating picked? You know, including corn for chips, cornmeal, blah, blah, blah. When is feed corn picked, corn for popcorn, blah, blah, blah, things like that. So I asked questions. So eating corn, which they call sweet corn.
See, did you know that? Right?
Mr Fun (33:09)
Yes, I did.
Biff (33:10)
well, we call it white corn around here in the in a lot of places. That's July through September, it's picked. It's the milk stage. That's when it's picked. Did you know it was called the milk stage? Right? That's 18 to 24 days after silking. I'll come back to silking in a moment. You know, and then kernels should release milky juice when pressed. That's when the corn is picked. So that's why it's it's fresh. You know, and then they actually have to cool it off within 24 hours.
Or it starts to become too sugary. Again, interesting facts about corn. The other one, field corn. 95% of all U.S. corn is corn for chips, cornmeal, feed, and ethanol. And then we've talked about it. So most of the corn you see in a field isn't for eating, it's for these other things. And what they do there, they get it down to a dry level so that it can be ground up. You know, in the course case of ethanol, it can be sent and and mixed with water and other chemicals so it can make the the fuel, the ethanol.
And then for animals they grind it up as well and they they feed it to the animals. The other one is yes,
Lucky (34:10)
Professor Biff, can I ask a question?
Biff (34:12)
you may.
Lucky (34:13)
When are you going to get to the the section on silking?
Biff (34:16)
I'm gonna come back to silking. I'll come back to silking in a little bit.
Lucky (34:18)
okay. I okay.
Biff (34:20)
let me just go through the types. Then popcorn. You never think about where popcorn comes from. Popcorn is what's called a flint type corn, which is also similar to the corn that's field corn, right? And it it's when it gets to dried to a certain level to 13 to 14 percent moisture, and they pick it and then they package it. So it's just corn that becomes hard. Yeah, that's right. Well, there's a step in the meat in the middle there, Mr. Fud.
Mr Fun (34:38)
it came from movie theaters. I thought popcorn came from movie theaters. Okay, got it.
Biff (34:44)
And then as I
Lucky (34:44)
Now is that the
same corn that I 'cause I'm a big fan of the smart pop the
Biff (34:49)
That it it
I believe it would be the same kind. What it is not is the candy corn. Not related
Lucky (34:55)
got it.
Biff (34:56)
to candy corn, just so so we're
Mr Fun (34:57)
My kids call me smart pop.
Biff (34:59)
they do call you smart pop, how often? So
Mr Fun (35:00)
Yeah.
Biff (35:02)
the the the silking, since you asked the question, Lucky. This is the thing I didn't understand. So silking is an important part of the process. The the silking is basically what has to do with pollinating the corn. Okay.
Lucky (35:18)
Okay.
Biff (35:19)
Silking is a stage when silks, the long thread-like strands, when you pick corn at the grocery store, get it from the, you know those strands? They emerge from the tip of the ear. Each silk corresponds to one kernel on the cob. So
Lucky (35:33)
wow.
Biff (35:33)
one strand is one kernel on the cob. If a silk gets pollinated, that kernel will develop. If a silk does not get pollinated, that kernel will be empty. So silking is the plant's way of saying, I'm ready to make kernels now. Did you know that?
Lucky (35:47)
So
Mr Fun (35:47)
Is it silking?
Lucky (35:47)
I think we should change
Biff's name to instead of Pastor Biff, 'cause he got
Mr Fun (35:51)
Right.
Lucky (35:52)
certified. I think we gotta call him Colonel Biff because he's Mr. he's smart smart on corn.
Mr Fun (35:56)
Leader of
the corn. Leader of the corn. is
Biff (35:58)
I'm the I'm the leader of the court.
Mr Fun (35:59)
it silking what the what the Mormons do? The Mormons? They soak. Got it.
Biff (36:03)
The the o no, the Mormons. It's that is soaking. Soak.
And and so everybody's clear on what soaking is because Mormons aren't allowed to have premarital sex. I think we've talked about that. So some some crafty Mormons came up where they would I don't know how else to put it, they would
Mr Fun (36:21)
No, no, no. They
use the they put the ear of their corn.
Biff (36:24)
corn into the basket, right?
Mr Fun (36:27)
Into the bac in the b they don't put it in the basket.
Biff (36:29)
They put it in the basket, but as long as they don't move the corn around in the basket, that's called soaking. So it just sits in the basket. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. But that it
Lucky (36:38)
That's also called Glory Hall, isn't it? no. Okay. Okay, I'm confused.
Mr Fun (36:40)
No, no, no, no.
Biff (36:43)
that is soaking when the corn goes in the basket but doesn't move. But
Mr Fun (36:49)
No.
Biff (36:49)
the the really clever ones get somebody else to shake the basket.
Lucky (36:55)
So that that does sound like glory hole. That's how it works.
Biff (36:55)
Because yeah, so then then
then then and then it moves because they didn't move the corn into the basket.
Mr Fun (37:03)
got confused. I I know the analogy, but I got confused. S
Biff (37:05)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (37:06)
is there a third party that's doing the shaking?
Biff (37:09)
Yes, it's a third party's doing the shaking.
Mr Fun (37:11)
And is that how you get popcorn?
Biff (37:14)
Now that could be. It could be. That's how you become a popcorn.
Mr Fun (37:20)
Right, exactly.
Biff (37:22)
All right. So we've learned a little bit about corn in surface level genus. See? And the
Lucky (37:26)
A lot about corn. A lot about corn.
Biff (37:29)
final one, because it's the time of the year, Indian corn is just corn that stays
Mr Fun (37:30)
there's more. there's more.
Biff (37:32)
on the stalk even longer and dries completely on the stalk. And you get colorful corn, right? So that's what that is. And what are the
Mr Fun (37:39)
I told you why the
scarecrow won an award, right? 'Cause he was outstanding in the field?
Biff (37:44)
Yes. And Mr Funn, what do the Native Americans call corn?
Mr Fun (37:50)
the I I call it mace, mace. I say it maisse though. Right, I call it mais. Yeah, but I I pronounce it with the Cher Cherokee accent.
Biff (37:52)
That that's right. No, no. Mace is what people shoot at you. Maze is the corn. So that's where we are. So I I all right. Again. Who?
Lucky (37:53)
Maze.
You know who's an expert in corn.
You know who's an expert in corn is Scotty of Scotty's vodka. He learned
Biff (38:06)
That's right.
Lucky (38:06)
he he tra as he was figuring out how to make Scotty's vodka, he traveled out to Iowa to meet
Biff (38:11)
Iowa. Yep.
Lucky (38:12)
with all these corn professors and got all this engineering esque kind of information. So
Biff (38:18)
So the
Mr Fun (38:18)
Wow, I feel like
I feel like that's eight minutes of corn information that I will never remember.
Biff (38:24)
You
you are going to remember
Lucky (38:25)
Ha ha ha.
Biff (38:26)
it. Again, this is the genius of surface level genius. You're gonna
Mr Fun (38:28)
All right, got it.
Biff (38:29)
remember some facts. You are. So there you go.
Mr Fun (38:31)
Yes, Colonel.
Lucky (38:31)
Mm. Cell King.
Biff (38:34)
That's right. You'll remember if nothing else, you'll remember remember silking and soaking.
Lucky (38:39)
Yes.
Biff (38:40)
There you go. So what else, Lucky?
Lucky (38:42)
All right, well I I I think it's time to do our NFL picks.
Mr Fun (38:45)
Here we go.
Biff (38:46)
Okay,
let's do it. So the reason that Lucky is so excited to do the NFL picks is because one of the three of us was four and last week. And that would be Lucky. I was three and one, and Mr. Funn brought up the rear at two and two. So our
Mr Fun (39:05)
Okay.
Biff (39:05)
season long record on the picks, Lucky is now in first place at 10 and 5 on the 15 games we have picked.
Mr Fun (39:11)
What a comeback.
Biff (39:13)
Mr. Funn and I are tied at 7-8.
Mr Fun (39:16)
Okay.
Biff (39:17)
Mr. Funn two weeks ago if I'm not mistaken was crowing about his performance being in first place. No longer. Welcome to the world of T two, Mr. Funn, out of a three person race here. So
Mr Fun (39:26)
The curse of the jets. It's the curse of
Lucky (39:27)
And my
picks
Mr Fun (39:28)
the jets.
Lucky (39:28)
my picks came after I was knee deep and you know, probably, you know, more than like a hundred hundred ounces of beer. So, you know. That's right.
Biff (39:36)
Right. And and wearing your later hosing and your knee-high socks. That's what you're
doing. All right. So this week's games again, as a reminder, what we do on the NFL picks, we pick the local teams, the Commanders, Ravens and Eagles, and for Mr. Fun, the J E T S Jets, Jets, Jets. So we will start the first game that we're gonna have is Washington, just so we know what the spread is, giving three to the New York Giants.
In they are playing in land over Maryland. And by the way, Monty W once again said that I got a location wrong, which I did, which I thought Washington was playing at home. They were actually playing in London. So I was a little off on that in the in last week's game that Washington plays. But anyways, this week they are playing at home. They are giving three points to the New York Giants. interestingly enough, Washington lost last week and the Giants won, and Washington's still the favorite.
Mr. Fun, who do you have in the Washington Giants game? Yeah, the Giants game. All right. All
Mr Fun (40:35)
Giants, Giants Washington's not winning another game.
Biff (40:38)
right. Lucky, who do you have?
Lucky (40:40)
So Jaden Daniels is back playing. I really don't think it's gonna make a difference. I think there's a lot of turmoil w with the commanders. So I
Biff (40:48)
Okay.
Lucky (40:49)
am gonna tell you, I they're my team if I had to pick a team, but I'm I think the Giants are gonna win that game.
Biff (40:54)
All right. The Jaden Daniels effect is the only reason that the Washington would be favored. It suggests that he's worth, you know, at least a half a point. If it was at at home, it would be worth more. Or excuse me, if if if he was away, it would be worth more. But he right it's worth a half a point. I'm actually gonna go with the home team. I'm gonna go with the commanders on that. Next game is the Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens are playing
The Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta. They are giving the Falcons two and a half points. Again, we're just picking winners and losers. Who do you have Mr. Fund against Ravens against the Falcons?
Mr Fun (41:28)
Ravens.
Biff (41:29)
All right, lucky.
Lucky (41:32)
So Lamar Jackson is tentative to play in that game, and that's a big loss for them. Now they have a great backup, Huntley, who's who's filled in for for Lamar Jackson often over the last couple years. you know, Atlanta's got a great running game, but I'm I'm gonna go Ravens on that one.
Biff (41:52)
Okay. Yeah, I d Atlanta throttled New Orleans last week. They they c they
Mr Fun (41:56)
Throttle them.
Biff (41:57)
c they crushed them, which it's tempting to take Atlanta because they're they're firing pretty well between their quarterbacks, Penix, right as their quarterback now.
Lucky (42:05)
Mm-hmm.
Biff (42:05)
and their running game's really strong. And
Lucky (42:07)
Mm-hmm.
Biff (42:08)
to your point, Lamar Jackson got hurt. So it's
Lucky (42:10)
Yeah.
Biff (42:10)
if he's fifty fifty, I'll go with the the Ravens, so I take both teams. So I'll I'll take them to win. Next game, Philadelphia Eagles.
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars, this is in London, same stadium that the the commanders played last week. interestingly enough, the Jacksonville Jaguars are favored by six and a half points over the Eagles. So Mr. Fun, who do you have? Eagles or Jaguars?
Mr Fun (42:35)
I think the Eagles
are really built beat up, right? Shoot. I'm flipping a coin and going with the Jags.
Biff (42:42)
Okay. Lucky.
Lucky (42:44)
Yeah, Saquon Barkley, their main offensive cog, is is I think is out. and they have some unknown guy filling in for him. I'm I'm going the Jags as well.
Biff (42:54)
I am also going to go with the Jags. It's effectively the Jags' second home field, right? They play more in the UK than anyone. I think they play one or two games each season in the UK. So I'm going to go with the Jaguars because I think they're getting a following as well. Finally, the New York J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets are playing the Cleveland Browns in the Meadowlands. The Jets are giving two and a half points to the Browns. Mr. Funn, who do you have?
Mr Fun (43:20)
I think the Browns have looked pretty good, surprisingly. And I'm gonna turn on my Jets. I've given up. I'm going the Browns.
Biff (43:27)
okay.
Okay. Lucky, who do you have?
Lucky (43:30)
This one's a coin flip. you know, the b neither team is a juggernaut. And I I mean some of they're better than they have been historically, both teams, but I'm gonna go with the Browns on with you know with a upset against the spread on the road. So I'm going Browns.
Biff (43:48)
You're gonna go Browns as well. I I gotta think that the Jets, it's a home game. I know that puts a lot of pressure on the weather's gonna be bad, I think. That's the one thing. I'm gonna go with the Jets to win on that. So there we are. See? I
Mr Fun (44:03)
Jeez. Right.
Lucky (44:03)
Mm-hmm.
Biff (44:05)
I'm just I'm doing it almost to be contrarian to use that word again. Yeah. stop it. All
Mr Fun (44:09)
I know, I'm I I now feel stupid. I feel like I'm gonna I feel like I'm gonna regret not going with the Jets, but
Lucky (44:11)
Diff's trying to make up some ground.
Biff (44:15)
right. So as as we
Get towards by the way, we didn't we're not we talked a little bit about baseball before. as we are recording this show, the New York Yankees are on the ropes against the Tampa Bay Rays, which I did read a stat that they do they've become a team that bunts more than any team in baseball. And the bunt had gone away during the money ball era. the Rays have have perfected that. the other stat which I found interesting was that this was the first year of the the challenge for strikes and balls.
Did you see how many pitches were overturned this year? I
Mr Fun (44:50)
Now
Biff (44:51)
saw the stat.
Lucky (44:51)
More than fifty percent?
Biff (44:53)
well, there was only there were 10,000 challenges allowed. 5,700 of them were overturned. Again,
Lucky (45:00)
Mm-hmm.
Biff (45:01)
last year there were zero. So proving that there is merit to the system, and it didn't extend the game more than two or three minutes. I think I saw the stat to do that many calls. They got to go more and more on.
It's just it's it's it's fairer to the teams at the end of the day.
Lucky (45:19)
It would diminish the
sport though if there was an umpire back there making the calls.
Biff (45:24)
No, they the umpire can still be there. They can be the voice of the calls, they can still call, you know, box and that other stuff that that yeah that there are their calls at home plate, blah, blah, blah. There's a reason to have an umpire in first base, you know, umpire and field field judges and things like that. I just think it's the inaccuracy is is a is a is a stain on the sport. I think they should go to automatic balls and strikes. I said it. Stain on the sport.
Lucky (45:50)
Okay.
Biff (45:51)
All right.
Mr Fun (45:52)
I'll give
you stain on your sport.
Biff (45:53)
I'll give you the
status part. All right. Gonna end with a provocative question. This is one that actually Mr. Fun suggested a couple of weeks ago. We'll talk about this one quickly. Two, you have two choices. Brilliant, would you rather? Would you rather be the best athlete in the world, but really super ugly? Or would you rather be brilliant but you couldn't speak? Which would you be? I look to you, Mr. Fun. Okay.
Mr Fun (46:20)
I've given this some thought. And
somebody smarter than me said, you know, I feel like I would be a genius and I would just create a way for me to like speak. I would just do it so I could have the v you know, do that. so yeah, I think that's what I would do. I would be I would be a genius and I would type on a machine and it would speak for me.
Biff (46:46)
Okay. Lucky?
Lucky (46:47)
For me,
I mean, you there's plenty of unattractive guys that if that are playing sports and they seem to do well in life. I mean, they if they're great athletes, they make money. They're f they got fame. Fame and money usually get you attractive mates. So if I'm a male and I'm and I'm a good athlete, I don't care what I look like. I'm going that route. I don't I wouldn't want to not not be able to speak.
Biff (47:12)
I I I'm with Lucky
on that. And and using your same philosophy, Mr. Fun, you can buy plastic surgery. You can mi Okay, well even
Mr Fun (47:20)
I don't think you could change your appearance. That would be too easy.
Biff (47:23)
th even though okay, but set that aside, I still think you would rather be the best athlete in the world, even if you're
Mr Fun (47:28)
You're repulsive.
You can't even look at yourself in the mirror.
Biff (47:32)
Okay. well that that's not how it was presented to me. You know, I I I I I yeah, that might change it slightly, but I still think there's something to be said for for the notoriety of being the best athlete in the world and and what comes with that. And
Mr Fun (47:46)
Yeah, yeah.
Biff (47:49)
you know, I think the the brilliant one so that does that di is your thought though, Mr. Funn, if you're brilliant and you create this thing, does it also mean you're wealthy? What it
Mr Fun (47:59)
I I'm
so s I I'm so smart that I would I would be incredibly wealthy. I I know that 'cause I'm incredibly smart so I would know that.
Biff (48:02)
I don't know, you're you don't know that though, do you? Okay.
Lucky (48:10)
Well, you could be on the
other one, the one that you and I took, Biff, like you could might be a great athlete, but you're good at like ping pong that doesn't you don't generate any income. So I wouldn't want to be an ugly ping pong player.
Biff (48:19)
Yeah.
Mr Fun (48:21)
Right. Right.
Biff (48:23)
That's a good
Lucky (48:23)
What?
Biff (48:24)
fair point. So I I think we call this one a draw. I'm not sure what the
Mr Fun (48:28)
All right.
Biff (48:28)
best choice is. But if people want to sh give their selections to us, lucky, how do they get a hold of us?
Lucky (48:33)
contact at last smartly dot com. So thank you for everyone
Biff (48:36)
Yeah. Yep.
Lucky (48:38)
for sending in feedback and questions and
Biff (48:42)
Yep.
Lucky (48:43)
vignettes.
Biff (48:44)
Yeah. I'll I'll take any suggestions on again on surface level genius. but I'll I'll keep bringing them if nobody's gonna be give me suggestions. So I will do that. So Mr. Fun, how do they you end with a joke every week? Do you have one for us?
Mr Fun (48:56)
okay, yeah.
Guy goes to the doctor for his prostate exam. It's a new doctor. The doctor walks in the room, puts his hands on the guy's hips and says, Don't get excited, Mike. And the guy goes, Mike, my name is Steve. And he goes, No, no, my name's Mike.
Biff (49:14)
That's good. I
Mr Fun (49:13)
Doctors.
Lucky (49:13)
Okay.
Biff (49:16)
like that one. That's really good. So anyways, we'll do it again next week until we we do. Great to see you guys. Thank you everybody for listening this week. until the next week, let me just say thank you and goodbye.
